    Just spent another pleasant day in beautiful the Miao village of Xijiang walking among the unique houses and terraced rice fields.

    I took off a little later than I had anticipated after a 'quiet beer' at the bar across the road last night turned into utter (and fun) chaos once a pack of fun loving Sichuanese dudes spotted the lone foreigner sitting at the bar and decided to instantly become my friend, buying me beer after beer and ...

    ... from a fellow passenger on the bus, enquired about Xijiang. Turns out there are frequent buses and it’s only an hour or so trip (and only 13 yuan for a ticket!!) So on the spot, I made a decision (yeah that’s right, I’ve managed to do physical exercise AND make a spot decision in the matter of a week or so…yeah, I’ve changed man)

    Once the bus to Xijiang took off, I had a few pangs of regret. Outside of Kaili ...

    ... wheat and cabbage patches. rice planting in various stages from plowing with water buffalo to seedling planting topaddy flooding. quite interesting.

    hopefully i have this figured out and will be more regular with posts. for those of you who i may have missed with last pms email sent when i couldn't get the blog to work i apologize. even the address book wasn,t behaving.

    The Miao women of this village generally don’t cut their hair and have it tied up in a bun, with a flower at the front and a silver comb at the back.

    We walked back along the river and the rice paddies and then got the bus back to Kaili.
