Sorrento Holidays (Q601)

... heard of San Marino but as Sue mentioned it is an independent state named after a Christian stonemason Marinus from around 300 when he hid in the mountain peaks to avoid persecution by the Romans and started a community there. It must have been a case of too small a fish to worry about as today, the mountain state exists as the 5th smallest country in the world. The buildings and scenery were breathtaking. Well worth the long bus ride to get there

So the time has come to move on again. Tomorrow we are getting the morning train to Venice, hopefully giving us the afternoon to look around and have some dinner before getting the night train to Budapest. It will be our first experience of a sleeper train and we have heard mixed reviews. Still, we are both excited and can't wait to get to Hungary... a step closer to Moscow!

Ab** d** Reihe nach.
D** Abend am Lago di Trasimeno war sehr angenehm und ruhig - nicht einmal die Eisenbahn haben wir gehört - die ziemlich nah am Platz vorbeifährt.
Haben beschlossen diesmal zu kochen . Einkauf beim Lidl und danngings los. Die Arbeiten waren gleich v**teilt.

We got to Rimini later that night after Pompeii. It was another 6 hour drive so again we were exhausted. We checked into the hotel and it was perfect. Nicer than the last one we were at. We had booked in advance for the night and the rate was 30eros cheaper than the next night so we (I) thought we would just get there and tell them we wanted another night at the same price. Unfortunately they played me harder than I played them and said they had no availability ...

... We only have the room for one night and we are sleeping in. I call at 10am to see if we can extend the room another night afterwords we sleep until 12pm. The next day we just cruise around Sorrento get some lunch and then sit by the pool to recharge after our miserable drive. After a nice relaxing day we decide to hit Isle of Capri the next morning. We hitch a boat to the island which is ridiculously expensive but that is just a sign of things to come on the island. Get there ...

... the track prices were so high for the gear and we got it for joining the fan club. From here we went to the town of Rimini and tried to find the Italian National motorcycle Museum. The GPS had us in the area but we couldn’t find it , even asking around was fruitless so we drove around the local airport side road amongst farm houses and came upon it tucked up a side road with very little signage. ... wading through garbage on the streets. No wonder this city has a bad reputation. We fled Naples for the shelter of our impeccably clean resort-hostel. Our last day in Sorrento we actually planned on spending a day on the beach, but at 10 euros each, we didn't feel that was very backpackerish. So we went into town, had incredible saucy eggplant sandwiches and spent the rest of the day relaxing in the sun on the terrace at the hostel... for free. Megan and Kevin

... island is famous for the blue grotto, which can only be entered by row boat at low tied. This is the second time I've been to Capri and was unsuccessful in getting to see the Blue Grotto. I always seem to be there during high tide. Oh well, next time! On our boat tour we did, however, get to see the green, white, and Gray grotto's. The green grotto was by far the most stunning.
