Another amazing experience as we all jumped on to a private bus for the 6(ish) hour drive up to Siem Reap. We had lots of room on the bus to stretch out which was not the experience of all the other bikes, cars and vans we passed. There were lots of 8 seater vans holding at least 15 people. There would be somebody standing in the back section of the van, holding the tailgate closed as it would be too full to close properly. There would be a couple of people on the roof sitting on cargo or mot...

... the stones. Yesterday included a huge elevated stone causeway 20 ft high and 3 football fields long, carved on one side with life-sized elephants and on the other with winged demons. Today is off to Tonle Sap, a huge lake to the south. After a couple hours through the jungle, I will get in a small dugout boat and paddle through submerged forests and mongroves.
Siem Reap, Cambodia rdk837... 8211; but sometimes it is just sad. Looking at them you wonder
if their parents are forcing them to do this – is it a choice –
or is it a necessity? We've decided instead of giving money to the
kids directly we will support the local charities who work with kids
to teach them skills for the future. There are several restaurants
in Phnom Penh and in Siem Reap that are run by NGOs which train
street kids in the hospitality industry – we patronize these<br ...
Siem Reap, Cambodia carlaandmike... and these little places they've found. Plus after 2 weeks it's nice to have other people to talk to you know?

Anyway we stayed at this luscious guesthouse which had a kind of beachfront feel to it despite being hundreds on miles from the ocean. Tanya and Bryony quickly grew to love the ever smiling receptionist (though that may have something to do with the giant free breakfasts and drinks she brought us). Got my **** thoroughly kicked at pool a few times by ...
Siem Reap, Cambodia flash101Well another week has come and quickly gone. Siem Reap has been my favorite city on this trip so far. This city has a great night life, amazing people, and is beautiful overall.

This past week we took it easy, relaxing during the day, the occasional night out. Here there's really only one place to go for good eats and great bars. That's Pub ...
Siem Reap, Cambodia tlow82... and found 5 plastic chairs for us! Not the ideal place for a evening sit down but you know it was quite funny. It was at this point when our hopes of a nice evening sleep started to fade. Or even if we'd get the bus at all.

When it finally arrived being hailed by the policeman we were asked by the driver that we had booked 5 plastic chairs hadn't we? (So, in Asia when the bus is full that's OK there's still plenty more room as they get plastic garden chairs and ...
Siem Reap, Cambodia sheilajortw... everyday life. At one point, I stumbled upon the center of the temple where a Cambodian woman was worshipping. She handed me three incense and indicated that I kneel on the mat in front of the shrine and put my hands together as I was praying and bow three times. It was incredible to participate in a Buddist tradition.

My second favorite temple was Ta Phrom, which is featured in Lara Kroft, Tomb Raider. Siem Reap, KH.16, Cambodia seasiabound... how amazing they are. I got up early to get to Angkor Watt for sunrise - definitely worth it! It's already very busy by then so it's a bit of a struggle to find a good spot but the view is amazing. My favourite temple was definitely Ta Prohm... the only bit I didn't like was construction of some kind of viewing platform in the middle of the temple. Power tools and the modern structure right in the middle of the temple ...
