... and I put the ones of the Christmas market on for you mum, because I know it's just how you imagined, with lots of stalls with more Christmas things than you can poke a stick at, it is really difficult trying to decide what to buy when its all so great (and surprisingly not that expensive, well for how beautiful they are, I probably would pay more for them ). These are day photos though from Regensburg..... it is 10x better at night!!
Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany teiganduketis... ideal water temperature by clicking a button to allow you to move the 'knob'. Then you move the knob behind it to alter water pressure. It actually isn't that difficult when you write it out!!
I went to school and had a 'warm welcome breakfast'. Even though i just ate all of the host sisters brought lots of yummy (sweet!!) food which I filled up on. We then went to our first class- mine was Maths, but number are universal, so I actually understood (I'm ...
... they surprised us with a cake with a flaming fountain for our 50th anniversary. They turned the dining room lights out and the oompah band played for us. We shared the cake with Jack and Suzanne.
The crew is very happy because we made it to Regensburg before we ran out of river water. It should be smooth sailing the rest of the way. The entertainment tonight was the German oompah band. They were very good and I bought one of their CDs.
Life is good here, aside from the rain. It seems like everywhere we go, we take rain with us. We went to Dresden, it rained. We went to Salzburg, it rained. We came back to Regensburg, it rained. But it doesn't matter because it is usually raining in Murray too, so if I'm going to be somewhere it is raining, may as well be Germany.
It has been a little crazy around here. I realized that I'm only spending about 50% of my time in Regensburg. You travel on the weekends ...
... could go into the history of Regensburg, but you could also look that up on the internet, so if you feel compelled to know, please do so :D
The rest of our time was spent getting settled into our new places. We went shopping almost everyday for things that you just have to have (it kills me to buy a swiffer here when I have one at home, but my floors NEEDED to be cleaned). We also TRIED to ...
... was used (see pic). Beneath its northern end is the Historische Wurstküche, where Mozart and Goethe munched on the famous Regensburger sausages (see pic). The northern end of the bridge connects straight to the Old Town, where small streets and narrow alleyways host shops and cafes. At the eastern end is the Dom, St Peters Cathedral, (see pic), which is one of the best examples of Gothic architecture in Bavaria.
... down (a harder walk for me because it was at such an incline and I kept worrying I'd slip) to catch our boat back to Regensburg. The Danau is a very beautiful river, and watching the people boating, swimming, and kayaking in it was very entertaining.
After we returned, a group of us went to get gelato, then headed in separate directions to do our own thing, as most of us were still trying to get settled into our new home. I had a calm, uneventful night.
... in the same building! It was so nice outside that it was great to sit outdoors, eat my sausage and drink a beer and enjoy the view of the bridge and river. Each town that I have visited (Bamberg, Nuremberg and Regensburg if your paying attention!haha) have their own sausage. I like Nurembergs best. I walked across the bridge and it was lively of street performers and crowded with tourists!
I took a guided tour from the information center as they had an ...
... but it has never contained water has it actually runs up/down the hill. It now has a subway in the middle of it. The river of the town, Pegnitz, has never been used for transportation as it is very narrow. This is why the town has depended on industry. The first pocket watches were made in Nurnberg. It was also the first city in Germany to become Lutheran. All the monestaries and churches gradually closed. Today there are approx. 25% Catholic and 37 ...
Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany cate354... but I did feel I needed it. So, I packed my things and followed him to the changing rooms. He left me and went about cleaning up. The power shower was wonderful. As I was leaving he even gave me beer. Bonus! There must have been some event on the previous night. Even so, I was on the bike pretty quickly shouting thank you as I stepped on the pedals until I was at least out of the sports complex. Highlights of the week - Bamburg, Nurnburg, Regensburg, good directions.
