... available as our next stop didn't even allow it in the hotel.
- This is not a backpacker type place and you will feel out of place and unfamiliar, even with the food (eg the Tom Yam is hotter and the local speciality Khanoom Jin, noodles with a peanut sauce, is served cold?). Just take it all in and enjoy the experience.

We would have stayed a day or two more but as usual the time limit on a VOA was hanging over us.

... other attractions i visited in the south, or old city, were the old city wall and northern gate. In ancient times, the city wall would have been made from earth. It was later built over with the wall you see today. There are 10 gates in total surrounding the city. After a 10 hour bus ride, I finally arrived in Thungsong, my new town. My advisor, a German TA named Gabi, and my new host family came to meet me at 6 in the morning. There were loads of people standing on the side of the road with giant vats of waters, hand-held buckets and pistols (all supplied from inside taps by hose-pipe).
