Travelling then along Route 66 through some little towns such as: Sapulpa - an old time town, one building had a large painting advertising tornado shelters. We entered into Amarillo which was packed with places to eat. Upon further investigation there wasn't a great deal to do there.

So, we are traveling next to Route 66 or on I-40 which is now the same as Route 66. Interesting homage to Route 66 at a Texas Welcome Center where there were plaques in the sidewalk explaining the history and purpose of the highway. One interesting fact: the current super highway system is 200 miles ...

... opened exactly 5 years after the 1995 bombing.

All goes well until we get into the city and we are about to go under a bridge which says 11'11" inches. This is not good. Cindy screams out to stop. The RV is 12 foot high. We are NOT going under that bridge (not in one piece anyway).

A quick 3 point turn later (hardly any traffic around) and we are off around the block and find a carpark close to the memorial site a short time later. It is bitterly cold here, ...
