... for a walking tour. This is the famous composer Mozart's birthplace so lots of touristy Mozart" nick nacks". The weather was warm / hot with temp 30-31 degrees. Would have been ok if my feet/ ankles weren't throbbing & swelling. Have to find the voltaren before another walking tour tomorrow in Graz. Enough of ailments. Our tour took us through the old town where we met our tour director after lunch who walked (not again) back hotel to check in. ...

They had a separate Summer home on the hill (yellow building), apparently a guest make a suggestion that would be a nice place to put a Summer Palace. So they did, in one month. The guest returned and there it was. A man of my own speed.

The Austrians seem to be very quiet, organised people but a bit standoffish until they trust you. ...

... are shops selling traditional clothes and Mozart souvenirs. I can't help but purchase some of Mozart's famous balls "Mozartkugel". They are chocolate filled balls with marzipan with a pistachio nut in the middle. Quite tasty.

Nevertheless we tick off a few sights. St Pieters Church is one (where they hide from Nazis in the Sound of Music) and it's catacombs which weirdly do not contain ...

... Mozart balls! I believe it tasted like a minty, coconut, dark chocolate ball, but overall was really quite nice! A short stay, the next morning we headed towards Prague but en route we made a stop at the former concentration camp at Mauthausen where we viewed the leftovers from World War II and the Holocaust. ... inspiration for the scene where the Von Trapp family hides from the Nazis on the way to their escape. Some of the singing scenes with Maria and the children were filmed at Mirabell Gardens, where we ate lunch at a really nice café.

All in all Salzburg was a fun stop and I would go back to catch a concert - the birthplace of Mozart is proud of its musical past.
