We cruised into Passau, Germany this morning....and guess what??? It was not raining and there was blue sky!! Thank goodness as we headed off for a bike tour. Passau is a city of about 50,000 bounded by three rivers, the Danube, the Inn, and the Ilz. We pedal first to see a bit of the old town, then along the bike path ...

We enjoyed a great glassmaking demonstration. We took away two interesting things from our tour — first, the glassmaker who showed us his craft had graduated with a physics degree at the top of his class in all of Germany, but has enjoyed glassmaking so much that he is doing this primarily and considering what he may want to do with ...

41 kms AM - Wow, what a morning! The exhibits in the Gäubodenmuseum in Straubing were extraordinary; the Roman objects found buried there in 1950 are amazing! Metal breastplates, knee guards, shin guards, helmets, swords, silver coins etc in perfect condition. The Romans settled here in 70 AD and called the place "Sor-viodurum". PM - The Danube trail is well signposted, we have only lost it several times, mostly entering or leaving ...

50 kms AM - It was a pity we didn't have an extra day in Regensburg as it is a wonderful old city. Left the city over the Steinerne Brücke, the oldest working stone bridge in Germany, it was constructed in the 1100's. Our first stop was at Walhalla, in the town of Donaustauf, it is an imitation of the Pantheon Temple on the Acropolis in Greece. Built in 1842 by King Ludwig 1 of Bavaria it contains 127 marble ...
