- The second half of the day was on the bus after lunch. Napping was popular. I worked on my cross stitch some more. We watched the scenery. We saw some storms in the distance but never had rain ourselves. We were excited to reach Vilshoffen and crossed the bridge over the Danube and saw our River ship. The four buses comprise almost everyone who is on the ship with us. Only a few people joined the group in Vilshoffen.

We cruised into Passau, Germany this morning....and guess what??? It was not raining and there was blue sky!! Thank goodness as we headed off for a bike tour. Passau is a city of about 50,000 bounded by three rivers, the Danube, the Inn, and the Ilz. We pedal first to see a bit of the old town, then along the bike path ...

... On the subject of signs, it's very pleasing to see very few traffic or other signs around, no sign clutter!! There's a lot to like about this part of Germany, the people are helpful, friendly, courteous to cyclists and go quietly about their work. The only downside I can see is their smoking habits, everyone smokes! There are cigarette vending machines in hotels, in the streets and even the side of the road, a pack of twenty costs ...
