... We caught the train back to Interlaken, to catch the Golden Pass Panoramic train to Luzern- as it went along the lakes and over the mountains, it was truly very scenic. Arriving in Lucerne and after getting our bearings, we walked past the famous covered bridge to our hotel which was in the old part of town. It was cold but clear when we went to have dinner but we soon realised that all of the restaurants in our area ...
Lucerne, Lucerne, Switzerland kiama_on_tour... going over a cliff! The mountain just dropped away and there was easily
800-1000 metres of space between us and the ground! 90% of the people on the cable car let out a gasp, myself included! I wasn’t so sure about having pole position at this point! Once I got my breathing under control and reminded myself that it only goes for seven minutes I did manage to enjoy the view. It was pretty awesome!
We were initially going to walk from the cable car station at ...
... I was going to do it, but the receptionist at the hostel convinced me to sign up. Later last night, I convinced another recent grad from NY to sign up as well.
I was a bit nervious when the van showed up this morning to pick us up. But when we stopped at a hotel to pick up a family of brits with boys ranging to 8-13 and their mom and dad I was a bit comforted. We picked up the rest of the group and headed to the adventure ...
... Vietnam a few years ago we paid around $20 to go from one end of the country to the other (over five days). Anway, I got over it as I looked out the window. We had the bus to ourselves (almost) so I figured out it was the cost of a taxi back to our comfy eiderdown covers and delicious food. Our second night here we had the most delicious meal we have experienced in our three months in Europe. Really, if you get a chance to experience this place don’t let the lack of WC ...
Interlaken, Swiss Alps, Switzerland marybc... it the best idea to ask someone if they new of the hostel we thought we were staying at. It was in the complete opposite direction of where we were looking. No wonder we couldn't bloody find the place. We finally found the place but they could not locate our booking. We thoughts this was a bit odd as we have not had a problem with the same on line booking service before. We had our reference number and as soon as we looked at the ...
Interlaken, Swiss Alps, Switzerland dinoshona... entirely of ice (including the floors and ceiling), with ice statues like a large ice eagle and polar bear. Deutsch and I tried moonwalking, but I slipped for the 3rd time today, sleeping's gonna be very painful.
For much of the trip down we slept, as the thin air eventually affected each of us. From the top down to our changeover at Kleine Scheidegg, a few snowboarders we recognised actually beat our ...
... I have 3 nights booked here and will try to see as much as possible. I really miss the atmospheres of South East Asia compared to the overpriced and attitude-riden atmosphere of Zurich. Anyway, I plan to travel to Belgium in 3 days time. Will be interesting to see how I go here. More travelpods to follow when it's a lot cheaper than this city, including my closing entries for Rome.
Zurich, Switzerland shanewilson... Eastern Switzerland. But, no need to say much more about him, he was super annoying, would not let me sleep, and it wasn't so fun being next to him the whole time. I think he suffers from extreme ADD, but since he is not American he had NO CLUE what this was. As I arrived, my luggage was missing. Nina was awaiting me as planned and we found each ...
Zürich, Switzerland maggiehazel... up taking a good 5 hours and it was nothing to do with me that it took that long. I had to pick up a colleague from the airport and then drive her to a place in Switzerland to meet another colleague, we were then to drive in convoy over the Swiss border into Austria ditch the gear I was transporting and I would go back to Swiss and they would stay in Austria. Well after eventually getting to Austria the girls who were driving decided to take the ...
Interlaken, Switzerland sheffster... layer, then the jacket, then the life preserver, and finally you're given your proper boot size to pull on with all of your might and zip up. Once you're in, you're quite snug. As we pick out our helmets, each one with a number or word written on the front, I searched through the pile until I found my lucky number, 88, as in MPH. The six of us who were to share a boat, Nick, Matt, Del, me, and two girls Ali and Kara, piled into a van, suited up to be taken to the river in the ...
