... is strictly Muslim (hence my outfit) and it was interesting to see their prayer ritual. Again, I was amazed by the kids there and by the quiet and calm of 100 children eating together. They were all so respectful and sat and waited until everybody around them had food on their plate. Not the craziness of the school dining hall! They were so generous and were insistent in their offering of us food. There was a family sitting with us while we ate who we'd learnt were a well of ...

It took 12 hours to travel from Yogyakarta to Bromo by mini van. A long day. We arrived at the foot of the national park in a village called Cemoro Lawang, where there was really not much. ... We then got in a series of tied together doughnuts and rafted down the river back to Sibayak whilst singing the 'business song' which to the tune of jingle bells goes: jungle trek, jungle trek in bukit lawang, see the monkeys see the birds see orangutan hey! This was all great fun and the river was busy with locals swimming who would wave at us. We went through a couple of fast rapids and our guide fell in more than once, but for us it was the perfect way to end ...

... further from the truth, it read “ Isuzu Turbo, Intercooler, Soft ride.” It must have been a joke?! .The driver kept phoning someone who would give him mechanical advice. I’m not sure, but I’m guessing it wouldn’t have been the AA or RAC. After 2 hours sat in the heat and swatting flies off us, one of which kept flying up my nose, presumably as it was the only shaded place around, the van fired up and we were off again.

      By this point ...
