... the first 45 minutes. At this point we’d gotten out of the big trees and had reached the point where the trails diverged. Lightning storms were still circling around the mountain, but right below we had a marvelous view of the sea of lights that was Bali.

The climb up was pretty uneventful, and was made somewhat more difficult due to the fact that we were both exhausted from lack of sleep. It made it easier being dark, as we couldn’t ...

From Penang, back to the mainland and a stop in Langkawi before I leave for Thailand, I once again stayed this time with Terry on his boat at RLYC, catching up with a few friends around before getting the ferry over to Satun next morning. ... the night. At least we were dry and warm. We played cards by candle light until our dinner was served and more fruit and tea for dessert. Food was really good, but isn't it always after a good adventure outside and cooked by someone else! After some candle light chats we all bundled up and laid on our tortuously hard "beds" and tried to sleep while listening to the sounds of the jungle muted by the rain. This is one if those times I wish I could sleep but couldn't ...

    Sumatra; remote, evergreen island

... we saw seven orangutans. Three mothers with each a baby and one male. The mothers are semi-wild as they are released from captivity sometime in the 70's. The male we saw is 100%25 wild and we were very lucky to see one, as they live more deep in the jungle. Two of the females with babies came close to us (probably because they wanted the banana we had, but still). It was so unreal to look into their eyes. I can't find the right words to describe it, but it was really ...
