We decided to switch to rainforest cafe for our last two nights in Bukit Lawang. This is where my brother stayed when he came. The lady that works here is so nice and welcoming. This weekend I was (easily) convinced to go on a jungle trekking trip to Sumatra - a giant jungle island in Indonesia.

To reinforce my badass status, allow me to clarify what the heck "trekking" is:

  • Trekking: (v.) extreme hiking, involving physical exertion way too much for my Dad to handle.
  • Jungle Trekking: (v.) climbing up steep hillsides by hoisting yourself up on protruding tree roots and swinging on hanging vines.

Not much sleep for Ian but I managed a few hours........I think. We pulled into a station for a while and when we pull out the sunrise has happened. We are not sure how much longer we've got to Malang but they decide to put the TV on which wakes people it's so loud again! They go through loads of rubbish on the box, then decide on a film.............Rambo II....lol. Ian gives up on sleep so sits watching not loud enough ...

... up-market’ kind of place but it isn’t. By the time i had taken in the view and dropped my stuff off in the room it was 4pm so decided to walk up to the viewpoint at Mt Pananjakan to watch the sunset and to suss out the route up so that i would know where i was going in the morning darkness. ... tiled, that’s a plus and we had a western style toilet, no flush you have to throw water down it from a big bucket. I shouted to Martin " there’s no sink, Martin we haven’t got a sink" The shower head had to be held because it didn’t fit on the wall bracket and there was no where to put anything. The room had a double bed, mozzie net and a sideboard. Oh we did have a fan that was something. The room was dark and depressing.
