... joined Dat and other members of our group in lunch at a nearby cafe, with Claire and I sharing a plate of spring rolls and some fried potatoes before embarking on an independent wander around the town. We quickly established that this was very much a frontier town, ill-equipped to support tourism (as this is way off the tourist trail) - Claire couldn't even find a packet of M&M's to buy!!

... is prepared for the ceremony by her beautician niece, Nhung. Her face is heavily made-up, she is given false eyelashes, and her hair is curled into ringlets. She looks beautiful, but I am scolded by Thuy for watching her being made-up – this is against wedding tradition.

I put on my suit and clarinet tie – the same uniform I wore for Darren’s wedding in Danang – and walk around the restaurant watching the guests arrive.

... Farms. We also saw lots of Brick Foundries, which used the clay from the River to manufacture bricks. We saw lots of fisherman and of their nets that lined the shallows. We went through a narrow channel off the main branch that took us through some more Coconut plantations before we stopped at a Honey Farm.
