... the floods of 1966. What? So, then with new eyes, I retraced my steps and looked at what was covered in flood water in 1966. Then I bought a book. And read it. It had pictures of the floods and the aftermath. The huge paintings in the church ... the water covered the bottom 1/3. So, wandering through with the book ... very moving. ... Then there's the tiled art on the floor, the huge paintings, the frescoed ceilings and arches, the statues, the windows...I mean seriously, no inch was left unworked. It's like they divided up the building and gave different sections to different people. We went into the library which was completely frescoed and the walls were lined with HUGE hand-painted song books. A good-looking bellhop grabbed our suitcases (bluest eyes EVER) and walked us towards our room. ... There were three young guys from the U.S. behind me in the line. Their flight had just arrived and were of course very tired and jet lagged. After that it was straight back to the hotel for a much needed rest. It's been a long day!
