Due to Sandy, the land mass that the statue is on, is closed till the 4th of July for maintenance. A bit disappointing but at least I got to see it. After catching the ferry straight back to Manhattan, we walked along the water in Battery Park, which was still beautiful, despite all the storm ...

We left the Marriott in Bogota at 5.45 am and took a taxi for the 20 minuit ride to the airport. American Airways took us to Miami where we have a 4 hour wait till we leave for Las Vegas.
Totally unimpressed by the new Miami airport - the staff and organisation were not impressive either, a grey airport with grey and confusing staff and signage.

Between missing a bus, checking our baggage, and lining up for security – we almost missed the plane! I was really not looking forward to the flight because I had developed congestion all in my head, nose and ears. Historical Traveler Reviews Sonesta Bayfront Hotel Coconut Grove Miami
I just got back from a horrible experience staying at this hotel. Some members of the party checked in at 4:00 p.m. and had to wait an hour for teir room. That's not the worst part. You pay $200+ a night to hear the thump-thump music of the Latin beat, as loud as you can imagine, even from the 14th floor. I was kept awake for two or three hours (1:30-4:00 am) by the outside music. I had room 1413. You will painfully regret staying here.
Very clean and friendly staff.
My husband & I stayed here because he had to do some business close by. I was amazed how clean it was. The bed was the most comfortable bed we both have ever slepped in. Had one and a half bathrooms that were very clean. We had a nice view over the pool (room 1414), ocean and bay. Nice chairs and table to sit out on the balcony and have a cocktail with a beautiful breeze flowing by. Nice pool and jacuzzi on the 8th floor. They provide towels and nice lounge chairs. Coco Walk, where there are plenty of shops and places to eat, was right up the block. Valet parking was convenient and reasonable. We enjoyed are stay very much.
On the surface this hotel is quite nice. But the view isn't really worth the price. We were on the 20th floor with a perfect view of CocoWalk and Coconut Grove, however this also meant waking up at the crack of dawn by jack hammers and other construction sounds from the surrounding buildings. We could have also sworn that we could hear water running from every pipe in the hotel. You can save some money on nightlife though since you can hear the bands playing at Cocowalk from your room. Loud and clear if you open the window.
Loved the Sonesta
I have to say that I am really surprised at these reviews. While the customer service wasn't memorable, I really loved my stays at the Sonesta overall. I always stayed there for business last year, and I had extremely pleasant stays. The rooms are beautiful and the food in the restaurant is very good. I didn't notice the noise - perhaps it depends on the room you're in. Nice, clean modern decorating that was very calming compared to a lot of Miami hotels. I thought this was the best hotel in the Miami area at a reasonable price (booked through Expedia). I loved being in the Coconut Grove neighborhood, 5 minutes from downtown, yet far from the noise and urban feel. This was one of my favorite hotels.
I am surprised by all of the positive reviews of this hotel. I had reservations for a wedding last January, and nearly everyone in the party had trouble with their accomodations or other issues. Our room was teeny with cold tile floors that showed every speck of dirt not picked up by the cleaning staff. There was also no bureau in which to put clothes and not enough room in the closet. Business travelers beware: I was in the midst of a home purchase, and the hotel *lost* two crucial faxes. I literally had to stand at the desk w/ cell phone in hand and watch the fax come off the machine to receive it. The worst part? The rooms are built as adjoining doubles w/ a common door, regardless of whether you're with another party or not. Which means every time the person next door leaves, it sounds like someone's just come into your room. Oh, and the rooms on the Grove side have the thump-thumping of the Grove Clubs until 3AM. The loudest hotel I've ever stayed in, and probably the worst.
Had A Great Stay!
Stayed at the Sonesta the end of March. Overall the hotel was very nice as was the staff. Seemed to be in a safe and very walkable area of town. Shops & restaurants less than a block away. Stayed in cityview 1BR suite. The room was very spacious and clean. The in-room kitchenette with fridge, microwave and cooktop allowed me to save a bit of money on food by keeping basics in the room for a quick and inexpensive meal. If staying on city side, be prepared to hear noise from nearby restaurants & bars well into the night. I will definitely stay at this hotel again, just on the bay view side next time. Only minor complaint was that hotel restaurant service was definitely at a more "relaxed" pace than I prefer. But that was about it. My stay was great.
A great location
We stayed here at the end of March. Hotel was fairly pricey but in a great location. Walking distance to CocoWalk and across the street from the Ocean (a marina-not a beach though). Nice clean safe part of town. Went out walking at nite with the kids, no problem.
On the downside, valet only parking at 20.00 nite, fairly expensive rooms, no ice machines in the whole place (you have to have room service bring it). Pool was small but warm and overlooks the ocean.
Staff was very friendly.
I stayed at the Sonesta just last week - yes the hotel is new and the location is great - walking distance to everything in Coconut Grove - but the hotel was ubable to get anyting right for our reservations - upon check in we got the wrong rooms - they were supposed to have a kitchenette - didn't. When they moved us to another room it was a smoking handicapped room - I ordered breakfast 1 morning - they not only got my order wrong - but also had no regular tee bags in the entire hotel - word of advise to future travelers - you like tea? Bring your own. The bill was supposed to be corrected - never was - our AAA discount was never applied - and overnight parking is $20.00 a night so be prepared. On a good note - the beds were very comfy, rooms were very clean, which is great - cause you wind up exhausted due to all the other aggrevation. Don't think I would stay here again for the money.
Stayed for a couple nights in March 2004. The room was a studio apartment with kitchen. Everything was new and very clean. The staff was helpful. The exercise and pool facilities were good. The location was walking distance to Coco walk and other Coconut Grove shopping/dining/clubs. The down side is that there is a fair amount of street noise if you are on the "city view" side. Also beware that the valet parking is extra. I look forward to staying there again.
Brand spanking new!
The rooms in this sparkling hotel are very spacious. Fantastic views from the balconies. Try to get a room overlooking Key Biscayne.
The lobby area is beautiful and there is a nice deck with a smallish pool on the eigth floor. The hotel is a five minute walk to cocowalk in the heart of the grove.
