Sommarøy, Norway partendo... the hotel. They reminded me of you, Ruth and your Mum :> !! After a small walk to see if there could be any sign of The Lights, we retired to bed.
Spurred on from the previous night, we paid a visit to The Tromso University Museum where there is a section on The Lights. With our bus day pass we explored the island going to their beaches, botanical gardens, ski-jump and later on in the evening we decided that we would go searching for The ...
... a doorway that just sort of disappears off the street. Going into Mack's is an absolute must if one wants to appreciate the historic relationship between alcohol, temperance, Nordic gall, struggles between townfolk and the contradictions in Norwegian society. Mack's is a "let it all hang out" kind of place. The staff are welcoming and informative. I counted at least 10 different beers on tap, all of them some form of lager. When I asked as to why no ales, porters, bitters or ...

... For now, sitting here in café, Gründer, in the city of my birthplace - Tromsø, planning, writing this. I am checking packagetours in India for getting some kind of ideas on what, where and how-to-get there, prices, fares and so on. We mainly want to travel with the indian railway ...
Tromsø, Norway eilen... slow down to a crawl for the last three hours or so as the track twisted it's way around huge drops, and through countless tunnels. The snow was about a foot deep across the tracks as well. Out the window, we watched ourselves travel along an enormous V shaped valley, which eventually turned into a spectacular fjord then gradually started to widen as we crossed the northern border of Sweden into Norway. This part of the train ride went too quickly, although it was possibly ...
Tromsø, North Norway, Norway jimborussell... that illuminates the outside, also lights up the inside. The pipe organ inside is nearly brand new (3 years old) and was spectacular. A swedish company was contracted to build it and it looks as though they spared no expense. We then walked back and stopped in a few more shops, such as the cool glass factory called Blast where you can actually watch them blowing glass, if they are doing it when you are there. It is ...
Tromsø, Norway engelkeros... have no room in their suitcases and there is the lack of refrigeration. This is the first MSU trip to the Arctic so we are the guinea pigs. At least I have a job. I feel bad for the students. After dinner, Madison and I went to this bar called Bla Rock. It was this kind of run down "rock 'n' roll" bar. We had a couple beers each (beers are 50-70 NOK) and talked for a while. Then I headed back to the hotel and tried to sleep in the 24 hour daylight.
Tromsø, North Norway, Norway amadhatterTromso had been largely untouched by the ravages of the war so much of the old city remains with charming wooden buildings and a pretty harbour. The highlight was the visit to the Ice Cathedral - a spectacular and beautiful modern building. We also visited a museum with a whaling boat exhibit and fish/seals from the local waters.
TROMSO, Norway lizallen... the summer. On finding out I'm Australian, he starts telling me stories about his time in Australia when he was 18. He'd gone to WA to work in the mines. He enjoyed the work, climate and people, but had a little bit of trouble with some local guys (over a girl) which ended up in punches being thrown and him spending 6weeks in the slammer! Sort of took some of the shine off for him. But not to be discouraged, he went on a coast ...
