An Introduction to Melbourne and Fairy Penguins

Today started with an early breakfast. We then boarded the bus for a quick introduction to the city of Melbourne. Our first stop was at the Old Gaol. This was used not only for incarceration, but was also where any hangings took place. It was used between the years 1848 and 1929. It reminded me of the old Gaol in Ireland. Very cold, damp and, well …

We took today and spent the mornings taking it a little easy. And, by easy, I meant I spent breakfast helping Maree with her computer. Yes, I even work on my vacation. In the afternoon, after a little work getting the right tickets for the tram, we took a ride over to see the Princess Theatre and the Parliament building that we saw on our quick …

Built after World War I, the Great Ocean Road project employed veterans returning from the war and stands as a …

After a VERY long flight (at 15 hours and 50 minutes, it was the longest I had ever experienced) we landed in Melbourne. I must say, as I am now blessed with the gift of oxygen in my body, I don't fall asleep at the drop of a hat anymore. It would have been awfully handy last night! I ended up sleeping about 3 hours in all - but I did get to see …

Today, you are free to explore Melbourne at your leisure. Relax at your hotel or in one of the area's green parks, stroll the charming local shops that line the broad boulevards, or sample the area's culinary delights. You can explore more of Melbourne by hopping on the public tram.

Took a Yarra River cruise, saw the Old Treasury, rode the Tram, saw the Melbourne Museum.
