Out of the widow Bahrain looks like lots of dust with skyscrapers on. Inside it is a strange mix of Christmas decorations lots of tour groups who look like they might be going on pilgramage, 25k rolexes in duty free, mcdonalds, costa and free internet to keep us amused. We've got 2hrs to kill - body clocks already out of sink! Am going to try and learn some nepalese from a podcast.
Bahrain, Bahrain paulandvicki... I am sad to say that my mobile camera could'nt even catch one - they were much too elusive for me ( and maybe the bus went too fast at the wrong time!) A couple of times I even caught sight of a cute camel cum goat farm, but wasnt able to get them on celluloid.

Now I must tell you that after my desert ride I have my own definition for the word 'Mirage'. It is not just an illusion. It is an illusion of something you have seen earlier on in your journey. You may have ...

Bahrain, Bahrain m_eidan... see in Bahrain. Look at your travel book. I decided to watch for a hour the capital, then I drove along the coastline through little villages to a beach. Then continue to visit the oil museum (was closed) and the ancient tree in the middle of the desert. Then I headed back to Manama for dinner and night safari.
Manama, Bahrain groundhopper... more like a seedy speakeasy than the clean and tidy oasis that it is inside. They have a good selection of Old and New World wines, as well as all the standard liquors. We purchased a fat bottle of Hendrick's Gin to accompany the limes and tonic from Al Jazira. Just the thing to get one through a sandstorm. On Friday, we toured the island and saw what there is to see in about two hours. Bahrain is a very small kingdom. We went halfway across the causeway to Saudi Arabia (a ...
Manama, Bahrain elizabeth7901... wells. These pipes snaked across the desert floor and joined together, then ran off to the horizon. Spread along the way were dehydration farms for gas wells to separate the ground water from the natural gas that was being pumped up. It was interesting. After missing the turn off to the Tree of Life and going too far, we finally made our way back and located it off the road. Driving out, the Tree of Life stands on its own at ...
Manama, Bahrain shadocg... antique shop in the Bahrain Mall. We ended up buying a rather large lamp in the shape of a teapot. Saved 40% - only 30BD (100AUD). They had some great stuff - I wish it was easier to ship it back to Oz. Day 2 was the adventure day. I drove down to the tree of life - a mature mesquite tree standing in the desert by itself. This was two-thirds of the way to the southern end of the island. Took about twenty minutes. Not worth seeing the tree but ...
Manama, Bahrain silverfox41... early 15th century by the Portuguese. As Forts go, it's rather compact and unimpressive, but it does have nice nose-shaped boiling-oil features. It has been restored, although there's not much there except for the stone walls lit by the setting sun over the bay. While we were waiting for the bus, an Arab in full dress stopped his car to single us out from all the other people waiting and asked where we were going. He offered a ride all the way into town. On the ride in, we ...
Manama, Bahrain smash... s friend set me up in a very nice villa for two nights, which happened to be very close to the military base. Further, many American military men were staying in the same complex as me. I hate to be critical, but I am going to be...these men were loud, obnoxious, rude to the local culture and further disguisting. Each man had his own personal prostitute who followed him everywhere...to the pool, to the restaurant, to the bar, etc. I was ...
