... managed to park close to the city centre enabling us to walk through - different when there is no snow lying around. Looking for a coffee shop we found the covered market, actually full of busy city people taking lunch and a superb range to fish for sale. In fact this is the biggest covered market in Scandinavia, according to Pinterest - more research to check this ...
... up that the plane was 'boarding'. I pushed on to the gate only to find another 15 minute wait before the bus came to take us to the plane.
A smooth enough flight on an A320 got us to Helsinki on time. For the first time there was power available on the plane but the socket holder was too small to plug anything into.
Although it was another bus to the terminal it was only a short walk to passport control and ...
... we made our way around, booth by booth, we came across one of the food vendors. Pulled pork, sausage, sauerkraut...yes please. So, there we were with a plate of meat, a pint of beer, and a few hundred happy Finns waiting for the hockey game versus Czechoslovakia to start on the television set up in another booth. ... enough, a late start but when in Rome, err.....Finland, etc. We ended up going on at midnight to a small but enthusiastic crowd of locals, some of which were huge. I swear at least one of their parents was a Winnabago. We noticed the crowd looking a bit bemused at one point and when we asked the BRM lads what that was all about, they said "I think you might have been a little bit loud for them". Good to see we're living up to our reputation ...
... A few of the band members switched instruments mid set which I thought was cool. They also had a trumpet slash keyboard player.. a little something extra to colour the bands sounds.
We didn't get to see the end of their set which was a bit of a shame.. but we were all a bit over it. We left Kaisa at the gig and made our way back to the apartment. We all needed to be up at a reasonable hour.
Next stop will be Stockholm..
