... and smaller towns. Not that Venice wasn’t nice in it’s own way, but I really like non-tourist destinations more.

But being too cold we took another train. Thankfully this time there was only one transfer and we didn’t even have to change platforms! Slightly warmer temperatures are tempting me to stay and cycle, but the only thing around is the ferry port. Everything I wanted to see was on the other side of ...

Allora, Allora (Now, Now)

... on the other. I found myself reading the Italian, pronoucing the words carefully in my head like they are babies that need to be craddled. Then I would realize I had no idea what I just read, and would, again, redirect my attentions to the appropriate side of the page. Werid no?

Italy never ceases to amase me, but there are characteristics that I don't particulary like. I can understand why this land, this ...

First taste of italian traffic

Arrived early in the morning and it took us forever to get off the boat. No kind of organisation at all and then we had to queue for an age to go thru customs in the van, but then we were on our way. I was driving and got my first taste of Italian traffic... oh my god. It was crazy and we werent really sure where we were going and neither was Harriet our GPS. I love how everyone just pulls out wherever they ...

... headed back to the room after dinner, not feeling particularly social. I was feeling in need for another book, so bought one down at the gift shop. It was a Nora Roberts one..and had small writing, so seemed okay. I also bought 2 packs of cards, so we could play Phase 10 in our own room!
I started my book, Dan watched Prison break and we had a few hands of cards around 10pm. We went out to see how the Phase 10 rematch with Calvin and the gang was ...

!!!!!

Off to the beach today, that is pretty much all there is to do in Ancona. Beautiful day though. 30min bus ride to get to the beach. The water was amazing, bright blue with white pebbles.

Got a little burnt! Everyone at the beach was so tanned!!!! even the babies!!!

Why did we stay in ANCONA!!!!

... beside us. We finally realised the water was actually being thrown at us, some old lady was abusing us out of her window. Finally got into the hostel, The lady at the desk didnt speak one word of english so when she spoke in italian we just nodded and agreed.

To the sea...

... vista of lumpy and spiky territory. Getting towards level ground again, we came down towards the dual carriageway at Bagni di Romagna and were relieved to spot a petrol station. It was only self-service and, though we were sure it took notes, we weren't quite sure how to operate it. Therefore, Paul ventured into the attached cafe and - in his words - "bowed" at the girl inside, informed her (in Italian!) that he didn't speak Italian, and ...

A Trip to the beach

... in my life on one beach. There was even a beach shower at the waters edge (advising us not to use shampo (their spelling not mine).

The water temp was cooler than in Sicily but still pleasant enough. by this time the sun had disappeared behind rain clouds. We headed back into town for coffee & shopping. Mandy found a ring but didn't buy it. I think she regretted it as for the next few days she wanted to head back to Fano.

May24th

We boarded the huge car ferry and found aboard heaps of backpackers dossing on the deck just like i did 23 years ago and the mobile homes actually could be accessed on a outside deck so the campers slept in the them. We opted to crash in the saloon on the chairs as it was much cheaper. The ferry was well equipped with bars and restaurants and wifi!!! So Wayne ...

A touch of France

... olive trees and all around us. It was one of the most magical moments I have ever encountered. We visited Pesaro first and loved it so much it took us a while to get to Fano. The centre of town was closed to cars and everyone seemed to have a bike. A lot were old-style, with baskets, making it feel positively French - only the baguettes were missing. The town had a great vibe to it ...
