Vantaa, Southern Finland, Finland ipalo... people and they were waiting for their Russian visas and had plans of taking the Trans-Siberian across Russia. I was able to pass on some information from my time in Russia last year and we had a good time talking about travelling and what not. We even got to see a couple of young girls dressed up as witches. That was the end of my first day and it was great but I was most looking forward to the next day when I would be off to watch the hockey.
Helsinki, Southern Finland, Finland eileenj... nkin turistina. Vantaan Uimarit näyttivät treenaavan naapuriradalla. Ja samaista uimaseuraa edustavan Joona Puhakan jalanjälkiä seuraten näytti hallin hienoon hyppytorniin kipuavan yksi jos toinenkin juniori. Ai niin, tiedoksi kaikille, valokuvaaminen on hallissa tietysti kiellettyä... Lounaaksi nautiskelimme pikkusiskon loihtiman tortilla-aterian. Kiitos, Johanna!
Vantaa, Finland amatsinrake... by Frank Lloyd Wright. It was a pleasant nights rest, although I could'nt help thinking that the very room I was sleeping in may have been the cell of a vicious killer at some stage, and I continuously woke during the night after having odd and disturbing dreams of roughneck Finnish hardarses gouging out the eyes of fellow prisoners and ******* in the bleeding eye sockets. Next morning (Sunday), we wandered off to do a bit of exploring. The first place we ...
Helsinki, Southern Finland, Finland jimborussellAs the world's longest day one of any holiday ever drags on, with a further 8 hour flight and then a whole afternoon in Osaka still to come, we find ourselves in Helsinki where, for the past six hours, it's felt like a marginally slow six episodes of Keifer Sutherland comedy 24. Traipsing from town hall, to docks, to cathedral, to American themed diner, we've seen pretty much the entire right hand side of Helsinki. Although I guess that ...
Helsinki, Southern Finland, Finland uglymaggottOver the past week or two, I've started the Quixotic task of learning Finnish. As I've mentioned, this is a hard and very different language from English, Spanish, and indeed all the Indo-European languages. Looking back over this entry, I see that it's basically a Finnish lesson in a way. So read on if you want some weird facts about a weird language. The Finnish people call themselves Suomalainen, and they call the country Suomi. Where did the name Finland come from then? I have ...
Helsinki, Finland traveeseWe were the last to transfer from the ship today leaving at 4pm, so we had some time to reflect on our time in Russia. Everything in Russia seemed large - big population, large areas, big engineering projects - roads, bridges, locks, buildings, museums, churches etc. Moscow was old and interesting but St Petersburg, although not much older than Sydney had also preserved much of its history and was very westernised. The new market ...

Vantaa, Southern Finland, Finland whiplash... me. Around noon we walk to the city centre of Vantaa. A typical Finnish town. We meet Pia at work, then we get Jasmin and go out for lunch. The rest of the day just goes by. In the evening the girls go to a club. I'm much too tired for this so I stay at home and play with Pia's X-Box and enjoy satellite TV. Before the girls leave, I have to take pictures of their party outfits.
