Caught the train from Helsinki to Turku which only took about two hours. They have very nice trains. Easy city to navigate. I'm going to check out the harbour and book a spot on one of the ferries heading for ALands. Unfortunately I can't go today because the ferries only depart at 0815 and 2015. So I'm staying in Turku today which is fine because I forgot that I wanted to see the castle. Now I'm just waiting for the hostel to open so I can drop my bag off. It's getting lighter every day.

... Many are getting cases of beer, many bottles of alcohol, lots of chocolate … Apparently taxes are very high in Scandinavia. I get a bottle of scotch and a Toblerone (chocolate). I go back to the top deck with my plastic cup full of Scotch and chocolate by my side. With the sun setting very slowly, the sunset is a prolonged pageant of colors backing the changing landscape. Wind picks up and it gets cold as the sun goes down. I crash at around 12.

... a quick look" in the museum. That was another 37 rooms & we didn't really do it justice, but some was very interesting. Some rooms were furnished with dressed mannequins for different centuries, representing either home or castle life. One chamber near the end we sort of looked down on "an archaeological dig", seeing representations of the different centuries' debris, down to the remains of a 13th century house at the bottom. We had to sit to rest our feet at the end ...

... we were looking for the port where they build the big ships but what we found first was a marina with row boats as well as yachts. The port, when we found it, was not particularly special. Well the letter hasn't progressed too far but the movie has just finished, so I can concentrate now. The movie wasn't much, but it was in English, and now the credits are rolling accompanied by "I come from a land Down Under". Anyway, I left you with us just leaving the port at ...

I found Travel Pod after my trip to Northern Europe, but I thought I would just write here so that people know they can ask me if they have any questions about Finland. I studied in Turku Finland for a semester at Abo Akademi University. I lived 4km from the school and town, and the public transportation is what I used, it was not bad at all.
