... wonderful villages up near the top that mainly service the ski traffic in winter and summer hikers. Two km from the summit of Col du Mollard is one such village, Albiez-Montrond. It can been seen in the pic from the summit view and where I filled my bidons.

Woke up with high hopes of an early ride today looked out the window and could not believe how far down the mountain the cloud had rolled. Climbing big Cols was out of the question.

We took an early morning trip St Jean de Maurienne to stock up on supplies and have a coffee and croissant. The weather started getting worse so it was time for bread, cheese, salami and wine.

... between my legs I returned to Annecy to pack up and make our way to the Maurienne Valley and the heart of the big Alps climbs.

To rub salt into my wounded ego the SD card in the camera played up so I lost all my pics of the short 50km ride today. Oh well re-format and away we go again.

We visited Albertville, sight of the 1992 winter Olympics and St Jean de Maurienne on our way to St Michel de Maurienne where we will base ourselves for the next week.

Another quiet down day. There were fresh food markets up top of the town. Brent and I had a wander. At lunch Nicholas and Claire went up to buy some fresh carrots for lunch and came back a beautiful bunch with stems on. I was impressed that they did that without any language!!
