Under the Tuscan sun. A phrase that kept popping in my mind as I enjoyed our first glimpse of good weather. It was a relaxing train ride from Bologna to Florence. It seemed as if there was one continuous town the entire trip. Generations of Italians coming to Tuscany to build a villa in the hills and grow on the fertile soil. Rolling green hills and the perfect breeze seemed like they may never stop. That was the first time I felt at ease enough to just smile and shake my head that I was in E...
Florence, Tuscany, Italy antonymLovely town and lovely accomodations but the owner of the B&B tried to rip me off by double charging my diners card. Pay this guy cash!
Florence, Tuscany, Italy bhaebichWe arrived in beautiful florence all nice and dry, it's funny on the map this city seems like a big city, yet here the city seems no bigger than a pind. The museums are all closed including the one that houses David. That's okay because we checked out the duomo here, which wasn't impressive at first since we just came from the biggest one in Milan, however this one had a really neat feature that wasn't available in Milan. We could climb up 463 steps, and yes we did debate whether or not we...
Florence, Tuscany, Italy ibeepso we're back in Florence and for the first time since we left England we called home. I had to call someone in Florence so I used the phone at an internet place and the local call was about 12 cents a minute. When Sunny asked me to check how much an international call would be, I checked and it was 10 cents a minute. So we decided to splurge on a call home (40 cents!) We're back at the same place we stayed in last time, just relaxing and eating in Florence, I just love this city. I just foun...
Florence, Tuscany, Italy ibeepI now know the difference between 1 star, 2 star and 3 star hotels. The price, and the services. The rooms are usually the same but the things like bathroom, breakfast, TV and so on are different. I don't care so much about TV and beakfast (if there's a kitchen) but this one had one extra service I wasn't ready for. We have a shared bathroom, which is usually okay. And a kitchen. Last night we bought some food and (a bit late, I suppose) at 10:30pm the guy from room 1 (who it seems lives ther...
Florence, Tuscany, Italy mr_grumpy
... Pistoria.. Tried to find a shop open to buy beer (not stubbies) as cans are huge…and tissues for runny nose etc… seemed like an easy task but it is a very old town.. Very narrow streets.. A Sunday and nothing open… but we did see a bit of the town… some bits more than once as we went round and round and round… anyway found that there was a shop open in next town Monsummano… got supplies and then tried to find the B& ...
Monsummano Terme, Tuscany, Italy smithoshea... Lisa (I am a lover of art). And the buildings were pretty awesome as well. I don’t think its possible to get used to drinking wine on the steps of some building so spectacular that it doesn’t even look real. Yeah, I got into wine in Italy. It is cheap and I like it.
On everyone’s last night, we all planned to get some wine and get together to watch the sun set over Florence ...
Okay, so its now the middle of October and we aren't even in Italy anymore, but being behind on the updates is enough of a sign of good times.
I'll do my best to catch you all up in a few short blurbs, but just rest assured that Italy was an adventure we are still trying to live out...
Florence was amazing. Full of tourists however and very very crowded, especially in the mornings as everyone embarked on their daily tours.
Our hostel was incredible. A big ...
... do it for us, even in the best of times and we think it is pretty easy to say that this is definitely the best of times.
Our BREAKING NEWS! As we may or may not have told you we have decided to stay in Italy with Dino's family until at least January (Yeap you heard us right). We had planned on travelling through only summers (we didn't plan very well), so we have minimal winter clothes and with us ...
We finally said goodbye to Roma and hello to Florence, well Perugia first, our destination on the day of departure from Rome. We arrived in sunny Perugia at 3pm, only to find out that the number 9 bus we were meant to catch to our planned camp site (according to lonely planet) doesn't actually exist. We could've of coarse waited the 3 and a half hours for a different bus going in the same direction, but this didn't agree with us all to ...
Florence, Tuscany, Italy dinoshona... other side of town (thanks to a great taxi driver) and enjoyed standing there listening to American music in Italy. About every remix that is popular in the US right now was played as we stood there and listened and watched the Italian people have a good time (of course, we joined in some as well). Tired, actually exhausted, we left around 3am and headed back to our hotel to rest for the adventure the next day.
