A drift down the coastal plain

... a bit tired of criss crossing the Sierra Madre and I need to get to Guatemala for possible hook up with fellow traveler.
I stopped at Arriaga this gives me the choice of either option in the morning and I need Internet access.
Stopped at the Hotel Marie Eugenia another cheap clean place, as they have all been so far.
Got a taxi into the town centre to find a Internet cafe, that's more like it $5 Pesos per hour.

Mayan journey

... not dissapppointed.....Chichen Itza known for it's huge central plaza and stepped pyramid was awesome.......they seemed to have ball games long before we Brits invented football !! but the winning captain got the honour of being sacrificed to the gods not paid fortunes for falling over !! so a pretty long game I guess. We stayed in Merida the capital of Yucatan in a "rustic" style hotel....which we later found out was going to be the norm for ...

Arriaga our last stop in MX

... of buisnesses, since traffic slows merchants sell anything from fruit to cold drinks. Some will stand in the middle of the lanes to reach both drivers of the traffic. It also seems the place to catch a ride, or just watch traffic as the continuing circus of vehicles and unaware drivers parade by. You become accustomed to watching out for the reductors in a way I have never have looked for anything else on the ...

Mexico

On to Puerto Arista, a relative metropolis, plenty of shops, some of them even open! Out of high season seaside towns tend to only fully open at weekends when the city dwelling Mexican hordes descend. Found a nice little place near a smelly lagoon and not far from the beach, but sadly, as often happens in Mexico, the workers started banging around at 6am - because it´s really hot later, they start work early but with no concern for their sleeping clients.

Stop over

Just a stop over in this small town, where a Saturday night is spent drinking until falling asleep in the streets. It was quite funny arriving there so late, everyone just coming to us so drunk and talking to us and then after one hour seeing them sleeping outside. This time has not much apart from good hot dogs, we went to eat them at a stand where they were showing a Mexican boxing game, and i had to stasy the whole 11 rounds and cheer up with the locals...

We hit the Pacific Coast

... the first night we camped here, we woke to find a fair sized sow having a good old chow on Vern's charitable offerings before wandering off down the street. We camped 2 nights and had our evening meals, a BBQ and a giant prawn dinner right on the footpath. It was bloody hot the whole time we were there, up to 39`c, and when we pulled out Tuesday morning for Puerto Angel it was nice to have the AC going again. Hasta Luega Amigos, The McGregors-6

It was what I needed

... drive to get there in our old beat up van w/no AC. Then our hike up was a lil bit of a challenge since I felt so over heated. But it was all worth while once we arrived. later that evening we did a tour of the Tequila factory and well thats a whole other story. there I decided to do a few tastings which I would need to do what I did next. In that part of Mexico eating Crickets ...

... when we got there that the 25 peso price was "per person" and not for both of us. I told him to go to hell and we got out and walked away. It really burns me up that these people that depend entirely on tourism for their survival here are always ready to treat tourists with such disrespect. I know other tourists will just say that this is part of the "tourist price" culture that exists everywhere in the world, but I see it ...
