Gay Paris...
Left Lyon (didn’t really get to see much of Lyon!) and began the journey to Paris through the Rhone Valley.
Through the Burgundy Wine Region to our first stop - Beaune.
As with so many of the places we have visited, the centre of the city is the most interesting and is surrounded by an ancient city wall from the times when …
Up the Tower and to the home of the Sun King
On the bus by 8:30am for our last ‘tour’ day in Paris.
We have truly had a wonderful time and the sightseeing list has been quite incredible when we look back but it really is all a big blur at the moment!
I think that it will be about 3-4 weeks after we get home that the bigger picture will emerge and we will really …
Metro to Montmatre
On our own again now that we've left the group.
Slept until we woke up for only the second time since we left home! Ahhhhh - that’s better!
Took our time this morning and finally left the Hotel around 10:30am and turned right at the Big Thumb towards the Grande Arche and found the La Defense Metro Station.
First day in Europe!
Up early to catch train into London, where we transferred to Kings Cross St Pancras International Station for the speedy EuroStar service to Paris! Sat next to an interesting, likeable French lady on the train who explained she had been studying English language for 3 months in London to help her in her sales assistant role back in Paris. Finally ' …
How much can you fit into one day in France????
Looking back, these were such BIG days, it is hard to imagine exactly how "Trafalgar" fits in so much to see & do into one day...no wonder a travel diary is so essential....after only a couple of days it is difficult to pull details from the old grey cells at will! Second day in Europe saw us make a beeline for the Eiffel Tower early in the day …

Historical Traveler Reviews Pullman Paris La Defense
Ok, but the doorman had an attitude
Most of the reviews about this hotel are spot on. The room was very nice, especially the bathroom, and the food at the restaurant is expensive, but good. The bar is a bit cramped, and there's no place just to get a cup of coffee to go, but I chalk that up to the French not being an "eat and run" culture. I would have given this hotel a better rating, but as I was leaving, I insisted on putting my extremely heavy luggage in the back of the cab. The doorman was put off by this and was saying some "interesting" things to me in French (obviously assuming I did not know what he was saying)through the window of the cab as I departed.
Luxury business class
I stayed here recently on business - paid EUR185 including breakfast. There are no tea and coffee facilities, but they deliver this within 15 minutes free as with all other room service. I had excellent room service breakfast for no extra charge. The bathroom is amazing - top end toiletries and a separate bath and shower. Room was very clean. Internet in room is excellent, but business facilities were average. The gym and sauna/steam is small and disappointing as with most of the public areas. The bar was nice, but cramped. You can't fault it for business - very efficient, super polite service and good value. This is about an hour's drive from CDG airport and it is about a 10 minute walk to most of the offices/metro in La Defense.
Lovely......but could have been nearer
This hotel was very clean, our room was one of the best in the hotel as it was on the corner of the building giving us a HUGE bathroom....which is always nice. The only problem we found was that you have to go over a bridge to get to the metro, which in the pouring rain was a bit annoying, the location is a bit too far away and would even have been better if it was on the other side of the bridge! The hotel was nice and clean, if a bit quiet, and was nicely decorated, would def return here!
Just loved it
We stayed 3 nights in october 2004 and thought that it was excellent, the hotel is clean modern and the rooms are good with great bathrooms. Short walk to the metro was no problem and the plaza just over the walk bridge behind the motel and beside the metro station had good shopping and some nice resturants and the city centre is only 10-15 mins away by train. I would go back again ...no problem.
Excellent hotel
We stayed at this hotel Sept. 19-22, 2004. We loved the room. Well kept room, great bathroom, everything modern, clean, they pampered us like a five star hotel. The only negative comment would the hotel is a good walking distance from the metro, but the hotel is worth the walk. Their is a mall located next to the metro exit with lots of restaurents in it. We paid with tax on priceline $ 203 a night.
Nice room, bad location
We stayed in the Sofitel Grande Arche for 3 nights as part of a tour group. The room itself is very nice. Decor done in modern chic style - very slick.
The bathroom was one of the nicest I've seen (even compared to 5-star places).
The downside is the location. La Defense is an modern office park with little/no nightlife or any other interest to a tourist. Also, it's not an upscale neighborhood. The local residences seem to be lower-middle class.
The metro station is about a 5 minute way away and then it's a quick 15 minute metro ride to downtown. For me, being closer to the action is more important then a nicer room.
Great bathroom
I stayed here on business as it near Levallois-Perret, and I thought it was super, modern and efficient, with the best bathroom I've seen, an excellent business hotel.
Excellent Value
Excellent value for money. We went to Paris for Valentines weekend and struggled to get accomodation. The location was fine, only ten minutes in metro from centre. The hotel was very clean and new.
Wonderful, great location
We enjoyed this hotel so much. Location is great and it is clean, nice, breakfast was very complete and delicious. I would definitely reccomend it....
Nice modern hotel
Good facilities. The rooms are ok, if a little small. I got a free upgrade to a suite once, which was fantastic. Staff are ok, although not quite up to the standard of the Sofitel Arc de Triomphe. Location is great if you're based at La Defense, or somewhere on the RER, but not great if you're looking to be near the city centre. Overall, a good hotel.
