Day 2 in Paris
... that!) 3. Buy Millie some beautiful French clothes - of course all in pink 4. Buy some beautiful French treats - gourmet macaroons, kogelhof (from Alsace) and more bread 5. Travel back to Isle st Louis for a finishing ice cream On wandering back up the street to our apartment, we then bumped into the boys who had spent their day wandering the seine, doing sketches, exploring local shops and eating ice cream. For the afternoon, ...
Another early start
... to rest up and head out for dinner later. Going French style and not eating until 9pm we also tried some of the French food. Chris jumping in deep ordered snails for his entree. To his surprise he got 12 of them. I tried 1.... And that was enough. I couldn't get the image of the slug out of my head. We both had an amazing steak, the biggest I've ever had. Finishing off the meal with a beautiful dessert. As we ...
Two Sides of the City
... stink. Yes, even grandmas ride the bus. Nothing has air conditioning, and the buses don't move fast enough to get any air. In fact the driver is constantly slamming on his brakes. Hang on grandma!!! Actually it was me that was having a few problems there. LOL. Well I am going to have to revisit this day later in my trip, because I found another side of Paris while getting lost walking another 3-5 miles looking for the 42 ...
Bonjour!!
... minutes (we were already late), we got on a bus for probably 10 more minutes! We ended up getting there fine and it wasn't a big deal at all, but it was quite interesting! After class, two friends from class and I grabbed a bite to eat then I went to the hospital to listen to a few talks that my site supervisor said I should go to. I didn't really listen, but it's okay because I just need to get some more hours in! After that I came home and had a busy night packing from Paris ...
Travelling with a Dark Lord is never dull.
... so we did the 5 minute walk from the hotel to the gallery and went to the queue.
Or at least, me and Cat went to the queue. Shaun doesn't do queues. Especially when he knows he has come all the way from ENGLAND and of course that makes him super special. So, off he goes, racing it through security and down the escalator, who knows what happened in that 15 minutes that we couldn't see him. So eventually we paid ourselves into the exhibition and Shaun ran off again. This ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Sofitel Le Faubourg Paris
Wonderful Place
This hotel has beds to die for. One of the best places I have ever stayed. Rooms are small .. but then welcome to Europe. Could not have asked for a better place to stay. The fireplace in the bar was wonderful since it was snowing outside.
If you can afford it,,
We stayed the week of Nov 26,,we tried 2 different hotels in Paris ,, 1st was the Opera Cadet.. which is a nice smallish 3 star hotel near the opera,, then we moved here.. Outstanding if you can afford it,, Our breakfast (room service) was included ,, I don't know if everyones is.
According to the menu,, breakfast was about 29 euros,, USD 40 ?? per person. Sodas from the mini bar about 7 euros,, USD 11 ?? I have never slept in a more comfortable bed in my life. Like sleeping in a cloud,, underneath you is a 3 inch thick down?? mattress pad and over you is a 2 inch thick down? comforter. Food delicious, staff courteous and location in the midst of Hermes, Maxim, and all the famous super deluxe, expensive stores you can imagine. Hotel located right behind Place de la Concorde. Bathtub enclosure quite high,, might be difficult for elderly getting in and out. Overall superb.
Great Location, excellent service
The hotel staff was excellent from the first day we checked in through the entire 8 days of our trip. The concierges were very helpful as were the desk receptionists. But most of all we really appreciated our wonderful room service waiter who greeted us every morning with breakfast in our room with a Bonjour that was meant, and always a smile. He made the start of our day special.
Our room, though small, was well decorated and the bathroom was large but watch the marble floors. They can be very slippery when wet. The location was fantastic and very easy to get to the Metro, the Louvre etc. Would definitely stay there again.
A gem!
Wonderful little gem near enough to the Louvre to consider it a neighbor. A walking area that has great pastry shops and fashion. Great staff, wonderful breakfast room with excellent food to start the day. Small library allows visitors to just sit and read about Paris before venturing forth. Next to the US Embassy, it does have extra security on the street, which made us feel quite safe. We loved the room, and even the food from room service was perfect- hot and presented elegantly.
Very nice but 500 euros
Oct 2004, inner room on courtyard, air conditioning, a slightly disappointing breakfast buffet included (but a 500 euros a day you should get something). Smallish room but very nice bathroom. Good right bank location in a upscale neighborhood. Hi speed internet in room but 28 euros a day. Staff nice, if you can afford it, go for it.
Great staff and service!
Spent two weeks here--June 2004. Every staff person we interacted with spoke several languages including English fluently. Terrific hotel, amazing staff--they solved all of our problems (big and small) with grace, pleasant attitude and efficiency. The hotel staff constantly went out of their way to help us, i. e. cleaning my shoes within an hour for a dinner engagement after they had been dirtied during an unexpected rain shower. This isn't an inexpensive hotel but the value, service and LOCATION are worth it. Our room (a deluxe double) had a walk-in closet which was great; it also was on the Rue Boissy D' Anglas and was very quiet. Through traffic on this street isn't allowed any longer since the United States Embassy is next door. The Martini's in the bar are some of the best we have found in Paris. Short walk to designer shopping, great restaurants (food at the hotel is good) and a metro station 1/2 block away. Lots of business people stay here. We will definitely stay here again.
Absolutely Loved It!
Le Faubourg-Paris Sofitel hotel was a wonderful hotel in an excellent location. In walking distance of the Champs-Elysees, Place de La Concorde and two metro stops (Concord and Madeline.) The rooms were absolutely quite (courtyard side), nicely decorated, very clean and the feather beds extremely comfortable. The breakfast (included in our rate) were excellent and the staff very friendly. We were pleased with this hotel and would recommend it to anyone considering it for a luxurious stay in a great location.
Great Hotel
This is a very nice hotel !! A great location you are direktly in the middle of everything !! A small but nice bar ! The breakfast is a la carte ! The stuff is friendly and helpfull. Ok the rooms are not big BUT they are new the bathroom is very nice and they are well equipped. One thing to complain the bed was very soft/smooth not good for my back All in All a not outstanding but very nice hotel
Small rooms and hairy bathrooms
I booked this hotel for my honeymoon for 3 nights. I booked a deluxe room for 420 per night. I got there and the frontdesk service was good.
I go to the room and much to my surprise i see a room with a ceiling the is half slanted since it was on the top floor. So basically you can use half the room since my head will hit the ceiling in the other half and all the room had was a double sized bed and no room to even store our suitcases. I immediately called the front desk. they switched me to a lower level room with a full ceiling but even smaller than the other one. our suitcases were on top of each other. I asked them whether they know that I booked a deluxe room and they said yes and these are our deluxe rooms. The decor is nice, the bathrooms are nice too except the floors were full of hair. I asked them to clean it and for the whole duration the floors remained full of hair. Pretty disgusting!!! I really don't have much nice things to say about the hotel. I wouldn't stay there again especially when this much is invested. I have seen enough hotels and been so many places in Europe and in the US to come up with the conclusion that some places are just not worth the money they ask for. Do your research, travel smart. Luxury is not only location and decor, it's also convenience, cleanliness, comfort and space.
Complete tranquility in the centre of Paris....
We have stayed at the Sofitel Faubourg twice previously and are going again at the end of March. Of all the Paris hotels we have stayed in, this is our favourite. It has a wonderful air of calm, the rooms are extremely quiet for being in the centre of Paris, beautifully decorated, and the location is excellent - right near the finest boutiques!! I am a very fussy hotel visitor, but can honestly say there's not much to find fault with here. Looking forward to our stay again - a cosy feeling of "coming home". I am surprised noone else has written a review of this hotel. Pamela Barratt, Cheshire, England.
