Ce matin, je pense en francais pour le premier fois depuis peut-etre dix ans! (This morning, I thought in French for the first time in maybe 10 years!) Between Madagascar and Mauritius, so far, I've been doing a great job of not speaking any English. It has made some conversations interesting, if not difficult or amusing for other people, but the language has begun to come back to me a bit. I'd like to relearn French as well as pick up a few other languages before my time is done. Oh, and by ...

Just back on the ship from paradise!! Had an amazing time in
Mauritius…it went too fast!! Mauritius is a small island off the coast of
Madagascar. You can get around the whole island in about an hour. We were only there from Thursday to Saturday. Everyone compared this port to Spring Break because we just finished midterms and it is spring in Mauritius. Most people on SAS rented villas to stay in. Nine friends and I rented one in ...
Mauritius, one the most popular tropical destinations in the world and has loads to offer you while on a holiday to this Paradise Island. Mauritius has some of the finest beaches in the world, old cathedrals, world heritage sites, a unique lifestyle and the most hospitable population which adds an extra flavour to your holiday. Mauritius, Mauritius panacheholidayLast night (Wednesday) we tried to go to Murphy's for a pie, a treat Darren had been saving up for the whole holiday, only to discover that they don't serve dinner. Such disappointment! So we went back to Le Benitier. We shared calamar croustillant, then had poulet sauce creole, curry ourite, mine frite and two beers each for a bit less than $40 - good value and delicious. I had thought we'd missed out on the catamaran trip to the northern islands, having ...
Pereybere, Mauritius penny71... right) and continued what the french had started and brought the Indian population over as well. During this time there were many epidemics of cholera, malaria, smallpox etc but it was all good. The sugar continued, at its peak in the 1920's but now it still has one of the highest outputs of sugar in the world and does 12 different types - all of which we tried in the shop after walking around a mock up factory of how sugar is actually made. Then we got to try ...
Pamplemousses, Mauritius b.herring... bedroom, a second bedroom and a bathroom plus a large balcony with table and chairs, from which you can see the sea and in the evenings an amazing sunset! In the afternoon we hit the beach for the first time, very nice white sandy beach and crystal clear water but quite small! After that it was bbq time which was a struggle as neither of us can build fire very well but in the end it was ...
Perybere, Mauritius b.herring... and lots of water. I enter the supermarket talking to hubby behind me and when I turn around: nobody! I go and look for him and what do I see? A hubby with: rum, coke and beer! Nonono: we need water and snacks. At the end: we leave the supermarket with both. With our new map, we find the entrance to the nature park. Look at Dr T's supplies for the day! In our great book, it is recommended, we drop by at the visitor center. We do. It is open and empty ...
Curepipe, Mauritius tonyandmarina... can's move). If anyone is going to get it, it would be me - so I invested in many mossie repellents! I am really enjoying my time here. It is not what I expected exactly. Very crowded and busy in the marketplace! There is a great fusion of cultures here - French, Creole, Indian and Chinese. The Hindu temples are impressive! Unfortunately there is a bit of discrimination in the politics of the island but ignoring that, it is very multicultural and harmonious :)
Port Louis, Mauritius jess85... hours drawing and walking while we did all five drawings. We ended up in a store in the mall and did a few drawings there before heading back to the ship. Once on the ship I found Kaylee and we went out for dinner at a restaurant I hadn't been to yet, after dinner we went down and had a hot chocolate at the first place we had eaten together in South Africa, where they had really good hot chocolate and whipped cream. We were back on the ship by 7:30 and we beat the mad rush ...
Port Louis, Mauritius destinationomad... gross to step on. By the time we got to the island for our picnic, we were starved, but managed to get in some snorkelling while we waited for our crew to fire up the bbq. The snorkelling was, as always, fun. Rob decided to pick up a giant sea cucumber, which immediately shot out tons of these slimy feeding strings all over his arm - he spent the rest of the day picking them off. Lunch consisted of BBQ chicken, BBQ fish, BBQ lobster, and BBQ bananas.
