Friday, January 2nd WOW. Just WOW. Tami and I have no words to describe this city. When we first arrived, the domestic airport was empty. It was just our plane and one other at the baggage claim. For a Friday afternoon on a Holiday weekend, we were surprised on how quiet it was. As we were driving into town, the road were fairly empty and we made good time. As we started to get closer to our hotel, we got the expected traffic like Beijing and Tokyo. BUT...wow...I have to say it again...WOW! C...

shanghai, China ratu8/16...Got here about 3pm where our tour guide Darren picked us up and took us to our hotel. Got organized and decided to go out to the Shanghi Urban Planning Center and dinner at the Shanghi Oriental Pearl TV Tower. Third highest TV tower in the world. Enjoyed the lights of Shanghi from 263 meters in the air and then went to get some swimming goggles. Darren did not know Speedo (how is this possible?) but he does now. Kris was put in charge of getting Jack goggles and ended up spending over ...

Shanghai, Shanghai, China place... was outside of the cafe, down a corridor, an entrance to the public restroom. I took one look inside and convinced her to run to Tonghe with me to use the bathroom. It was basically a hole in the ground in the middle of a slimy tile floor. I seriously would have like fallen in or slipped and broke something, and I didn't want to take my chances. Also, in the public restrooms there is no toilet paper. So you have to make sure to bring a little packet of tissues with ...
Shanghai, Shanghai, China ddavies2Here are some pictures of some really nice homes designed for ex-pats. They are in gated communities and look like mini mansions. There are also some random pics of the city. Nothing to report today other than I found a wonderful lunch place and had the most yummy sandwich with red juicy tomato, fresh basil and mozzarella cheese on real sourdough fresh baked bread. I thought I have died and gone home to Buffalo.
Shanghai, China mcooney74... After leaving there we wandered around looking for dinner and ended up going into a Sichuan place. The menu had English and pictures, but that doesn't really help, as we found out. If anyone saw Anthony Bourdain in Beijing, you saw them eating out of a hot pot (flame under it the whole time) of meat and a million peppers. We ordered one of those. Part way through the sauce started turning blood red from the peppers and we had them ...
