Three Missions in Shanghai

I woke up on our flight some two hours out of Shanghai - feeling like death. Was it the effects of our long and often arduous travels through Pakistan and northern India during the last month or was it just far too much grog with Businessman Bob in the Delhi China Eastern Airlines lounge the evening before?

Shamefully I have to admit it …

Todays its really hot.....

This morning we were collected by a car from Valmont Industries complete with driver and guide. They and the car were courtesy of the factory that i have done business with - buying steel power poles etc - not to bore you with that anymore and suffice to say that when asked if I would like a tour of the factory I quickly thought of Jen and turned …

Today we were up and off after a leisurely sleep in to 10am. Our first stop was to look in the Peace Hotel at the end of our road (Nanjing Road). While the hotel has a plain exterior the interior has an amazing Art Deco style facade. The next stop was down to the bund and the under the river via the bund sightseeing tunnel. This is a weird train or …

On yesterdays blog i said that our next stop was to be China and i was writing that blog after visiting the Vatican and sitting at our hotel waiting for our taxi to arrive. And so there the story of the next 24 hours of mayhem and madness begins.....

The taxi arrived and in we all jumped ready for the next chapter and the start of our way …

Shanghai and the Watch Craze

... pleased with the bargain of the day; my first Daytona watch, The girl in the red, extraordinarily persisted: "You should give me ten Yuan for escorting you." "What! you must be kidding." I left her standing after me before she returned to her store. So THISSSS is Shanghai! Something unique, interesting, exciting, tumultuous. Something you wouldn't find elsewhere in the rest of China. Somewhat of an extreme example, I guess. I ambled up ...

This hotel provides a lovely venue in which to spend a few days in the wonderful city of Shanghai. It is very centrally located in the shopping mall of Nanjing Dong Lu and is within walking distance to the famous Bund and famed Peace Hotel as well as other attractions such as the Old City, Shanghai Historical Museum, Yu Gardens and the Botanical Gardens. The hotel is not cheap but the quality of the rooms, restaurants and service have made it a number one choice for us. The Club Floors packages which include lovely rooms, wonderful breakfasts, great Happy Two Hours each evening, private check in for Club Guests and use of the Club Lounge are good value. The Club Lounge which is located on the top floor offers staggering views of Shanghai City. Highly recommended. We plan to stay there during our stopover in Shanghai on our trip next year.
