Sunny in Taba

This was the big day! We were going to St. Katherin's Monestary. No, we didn't walk up to the top of Mt. Sinai but Anita, Terri, Bian and the boys left at 6:30am to get there and make the trek up. Steve, Mom, Dad and I left at 8:00am left with our driver and security guard. It was a 2.5 hour drive through the desert with windy and curvy roads with heads on a swivel for the entire time but we finally got there to find that the monestary was closed for Orthodox Easter! We had to deal with a dri...

A Superb Experience

from A TripAdvisor Member
What can I say, excellent customer service, excellent swimming pools, good food and what a beautiful main reception area!

After moving from the Hyatt disaster next door, we finally found bliss. A most welcoming team worked in this hotel, especially the Residential Manager who went out of his way to help us.

I would thoroughly recommend you to stay at this hotel.

Fantastic!

Fantastic Hotel! Spacious rooms, all with balconies overlooking the sea. All the staff were really helpful and friendly and very welcoming. Really nice swimming pools all down by the beach. We stayed half board and the food was very good every day! There is another restaurant where you can eat at a small cost (you get a credit though if you eat there and you're in half board) although the food in the main restaurant was that good each day, we never went to the other one! There were a lot of kids there and there is a kids club which is open every day. Not much to do in the area as there are only 3 hotels and the watersports centre there so far. They are constructing a large golf course and the Intercontinental hotel there at the moment too, but they won't be ready until December 2005 apparently. Lots of tours to various places available depending on your travel compnay. We went with Peltours and they had trips available to Cairo, Jerusalem, Petra in Jordan, Coloured Canyon. There is also a watersports centre not far away with a shuttle bus between there and the hotels every 30 mins during the day. We went on a snorkelling boat trip and had lunch on the boat one day. Was great! Entertainment in the evenings quite poor though. Was that bad it was funny at times though!!! Would definately stay there again though!

Fantastic Holiday

We had a fantastic holiday in the Sofitel, It was everything we could want

from walking through the open air reception down to the clothes fanned out on our beds everyday!

The staff were lovely couldn't do enough for you, a very relaxing holiday

the children went paragliding, swimming with dolphins and riding a camel

along with snorkling off the beach with amazing sights.

The food was good too!

all in all a thoroughly clean safe and friendly family environment!

Lovely hotel with exceptional Staff

from A TripAdvisor Member
We have just come home from the Sofitel...but didn't want to leave!

The hotel is lovely with big rooms and sea views from all balconies. What really stood out was the service and friendliness of the staff. They were attentive and went out of their way to make us happy. The management took time to talk to guests even though the hotel was full and they were very busy. There is not much to do in the evenings as the hotel guests are mainly families or those looking for a relaxing break but the 'disco' next door at the Hyatt was great.

Had a great holiday

We stayed at the Sofitel late Feb 05. We are not seasoned 4*/5* hotel users so opinion may be a bit biased. We thought the hotel very good. Extremely clean. All rooms are sea facing but better views higher up. Rooms are tiered so top rooms (forth floor) have small balcony. Ours on third floor had nice size with sun loungers + table & chairs. Double room had huge queen bed, twin room had two double beds. Sky tv but BBC channel no go. Gym, table tennis, pool, sauna. Tennis courts free in day but small charge for electric after dark. 3 pools, one heated. 2 hot tubs.

Food excellent. Huge choice both hot and cold. Breakfast chef always ready to fresh cook your eggs- omlette, poached etc. Good choice of rolls, bread, pain etc. Evening always included carvery, sometimes meat, sometimes fish. Lots of choice for sweet. Waiters helpful but sometimes too eagar. Wine expensive. You could pay 25 english pounds for a french wine. If wine is your tipple take some from home. Evening entertainment was poor. Salads & drinks-ice is safe-purified water. Dont drink tap water.

Visit the other hotels-different facilities. Need shoes for beach swimming-stones. Only hotel shops. No car hire. Airport awful and no duty free.

We loved the Sofitel

We have just come back from a fantastic week in Taba staying at the Sofitel. The hotel was really good, the rooms were clean and spacious, the minibar was stocked and re filled everyday and the view from our room was amazing. We thought the staff were friendly if a little slow in adding up your bill! The entertainment was poor and I think that if you have children this resort is not for you, however as you are allowed to use the facilities in both the Marriott and the Hyatt next door, we went there everyday to sunbathe by their great pool and the evening entertainment was alot better than at the Sofitel. Be warned that at the Hyatt they charge you service and tax ontop of your drinks so it works out quite expensive!

All the hotel shops are crap, there is little to do around taba without paying a fortune to get anywhere, and we found that it was difficult to get a taxi other than through your tour rep who charged a absolute fortune! We did go with a very crap company, Soliman travel, and I think that this was the main reason!

All in all we highly recommend the Sofitel, the food was good, we had a great selection every night and for Breakfast and even if the weather is poor there is a gym, sauna, pool tables and tennis courts to keep you amused. We also had sky tv in our room if the weather got that bad!

Fantastic

from kayandpete
we stayed here for a week August 2004. we found it amazing. we were fortunate enough to have a Family suite and without doubt was accomodation of 5 star quality.

the service could be slow but we could live with it (these guys earn ??20 a week!!)the staff are polite and couldn't do enough for you. we would definitley go back. one point though there is NOTHING in the area so Half Board is a must. The snorkelling is fantastic if you just walk down to the pier by the Hyatt Regency off there is amazing. Having done the Barrier Reef 6 months before it compares favourably, another tip take your own snorkelling kit as the hired stuff is not much good.

Lovely hotel,very,very poor service staff.

The sofitel Hotel in Taba is a nice hotel.(to look at)

The hotel is privately owned and built, and is frianchised to sofitel. This hotel claims to be a 5*star hotel, sadly it is not.

This whole region(taba) suffers from quality staff shortages.(nearly all of the staff come from cairo).

and in fact all the hotels suffer from poorly trained staff.(the hotels cannot keep staff due to the low wages and the distance from cairo.)The same bad staff we found working at ALL THE HOTELS!.

The facts are that most of the staff have not got a clue on how to serve,or how to behave in a 5*hotel.

we found staff responsible for entertaining customers, lazy and sometimes even drunk.

The entertainerment at the sofitel was like a really bad,Im mean really bad "butlins".

Service was very slow.Once i ask for an "ice bucket""1hour later"he came with the ice bucket..but no ice inside!.The food(buffet)was boring and bland.(and they use cheap fruit juices made with water)if you want fresh orange juice you have to pay extra!."the chefs"ARE NOT TRUE CHEFS,well not in the 5*sense,maybe for the egyption army ..yes!..The marriot is the same.

The best hotel in this region is the Hyatt. But none of these hotels are really a true 5*.(ive been a guest at ,the Hyatt, marriott, and sofitel hotels.

The manager at the marriott hotel was "always"busy scuba diving and drinking,to meet guests that had complaints.

I personally wrote to J marriotts head office in Usa,because I was so disgusted by this guy.

He has now been replaced .If you are going to this region mainly because of the 5* hotels, dont bother!,if you know what a true 5*star is and your used to it,you will be disapointed.

But if your up for anything, and your expectations are not to high, then you will be happy.

Amazing Resort Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We spent one week at the Sofitel Taba in early September and loved it. The service was great, fast and efficient and of course a tip makes it even better. The rooms all have a seaview, are well decorated and spacious. The hotel has two pools, one sea water and one freshwater, and two hot tubs. Both pools are were very clean and big enough for us to have some personal space. The food, breakfast and dinner which were included in the package, were acceptable but don't expect great. Both meals were buffet style with plenty of options, dinner always included pastas, cheeses , grilled meats and salads. In the resort there were two well priced restaurants for snacks and lunch. Alcoholic drinks were rather poor but I've heard it's like that all over Sinai. The hotel has transportation to the nearby water sports center where they have every possible water sport you could want. Tipping frequently also helped make our vacation more relaxed. In short there is not one thing to complain about, and I highly recommend the hotel and can't wait to get back there! It's a great place to disconnect from the world.
