... one plate. My husband, to his credit, managed to down almost 2 of them. I managed about ½ of one. Unsure what to do with the untouched plate of remaining hot dogs, we tried for a sneaky exit of the breakfast room when he was engaged elsewhere. Several hours later the memory of that half a breakfast hot dog is still with me.
Krakow, Southern Poland, Poland carpefeline... Luckily there was a smokers corner on the boat, where I met some Polish, Swiss and American guys. We really had some fun with the duty free beer available, and I got like 1 hour of sleep maybe. ;) I arrived in Berlin around 6am, which was a bit sucky also, because nothing was open yet. But it was a cool way to see Berlin waking up too. I went to see the Reichstag and the Brandenburger Tor and touristy sites like that. Later on I booked a hostel at the central ...
Krakow, Southern Poland, Poland marrylinke... was on a more affordable level than the ones on the menu... (We named it after her, the "Justina".. she was flattered and embarassed)... After a couple of Justinas we were dragged to a nightclub in one of the many old town cellars, and then promptly thrown out again by the massive Polish bouncers for making fools of ourselves on the dancefloor. Our Polish friends had not been thrown out, so Danny and myself staggered back to our hotel somehow through the cold twisty Krakow old town ...
Krakow, Southern Poland, Poland jimborussell... driving bit, there is always a catch when they are going to that extent for customers. I walked to the hostel to find it was 5 dollars cheaper then what he had quoted me, and a fantastic hostel at that. As I was settling in I met 4 fellow roommates, one from England, 2 from N. Carolina and 1 from Brazil. That evening we all walked to the city center to find some authentic Polish cuisine. The food was amazing, Dumplings as appetizers, and chicken stuffed with ham and ...
Krakow, Poland jaywehrs... to pass on what I learned and experienced. Feeling hot and spent, we headed back to Krakow. Attila was ready for some more pork hocks, so we went back to the Milk Bar. After supper, we toured the Wawel Castle. Being that it was a Saturday, the castle grounds were full of bridal parties getting their photos done. We explored the grounds and took the cavernous journey down the hill to see the dragon (Legend is that the ...
Krakow, Poland dancer_alison... out with the movie Babel . Turns out most of the dialogue is in Moroccan and Japanese and guess what it is translated into Polish, not English so now I have to see it again! But it was a very isnteresting movie which I would see again anyway. The second movie was Havana with Andy Garcia, a bit part by Dustin Hoffman and so I thought this should be ok and it was terrible. The 3rd one was Art School Confidential with John Malkovich which ...
Krakow, Poland lecklund... perfect. I printed out the photo and set off to find a hairdresser to cut it - considering the plethora of hairdressers that sprung out of every crack and hollow in Krakow, I didn't think I'd have a problem. The first place we went to didn't have a hair straightener, which is a bit of an odd thing not to have when your business is hair and the two types that people need are curly or, well, straight. Next, Ona embarrassed herself spectacularly by asking the ...
Krakow, Poland baggagewhores... first gas chamber / crematorium buildings, we moved on to go through several barracks-turned-museums. Rooms of shoes, toothbrushes and shaving brushes, pots and pans, luggage, hair, and gas canisters somehow personalized the victims' tragedy victims and demonstrated the vast numbers of those exterminated. In the early afternoon we took a short ride to the much larger Berkinau section. Rows and rows and rows of mass-housing units could be seen, as well as a forest of brick ...
Krakow, Poland russchidUntil the mid-1990, Wieliczka Salt Mine, just outside Krakow had produced table salt since the 13th century. Today it's one of the area's major tourist attractions. A four-hundred or so step staircase takes you into the bowels of the mine where a massive underground cathedral sits. Its walls are adorned with carvings that appear to be paintings, but like everything else in the mine they're made from solid granite-like rock salt. The cathedral appears to be constructed ...
Krakow, Southern Poland, Poland jackdrury... beautiful city, especially in the Stare Miasto (Old Town). We visited the Rynek (the main square in the center of the city) which, as it turns out, happens to be the largest medieval square in Europe. The square was lined with various open-aired cafes, each decorated with different types flowers. We visited a church in one corner of the square, St. Mary's, which was built in the 13th Century and was finished with stained ...
