By this stage we were starving as well, so the kind man who ran the hotel took pity on us and loaned us his car to take into the "nearby" village.... which was pretty much deserted. Sigh. We bought a loaf of bread, a tomato, some cheese and some ham, which was to be our dinner, and then our breakfast and lunch for the next day.
We decided one night in solitude was more than enough for both of us so packed up our gear ...
... local sausages from Rethmyio rounded out our meal. After some false starts looking for the bus station, we had a hot slow bus trip out to Knossos, the vast Minoan palace excavated and somewhat Disnified by Arthur Evans in the 1900s. That palace dates from 1700-1400 BC and is a large structure of 1300 rooms. The palace is known for its frescoes, labyrinthian ways, Minoan columns, and frescoes. It also contains the earliest ...
Heraklion, Crete, Greece nsadventures... any discount for pensioners unless you're over 65), and we were greeted by a guide – Eva – she suggested that we would benefit from her services. She was right, without her knowledge and panache it could have been just another pile of rocks. It is a palace of the Minoan civilization that pre-dated the Greeks and ruled the Mediterranean with the world’s first navy. The myths about the Minoans (Minotaur, labyrinth) were probably inventions of ...

To get there it is located in between Star Beach Resort and The Lychnostatis Museum on the road from Hersonissos to Malia. Bus stop No.24.

Agia Pelagia, Crete, Greece belphoebe... spirit… sau asa am simtit eu, in cele 14 zile cat am fost in Grecia.
In Romania biserica ortodoxa e mai putin bogata in imobile, dar sper mai profunda in spirit. Desi face progrese.

... potent, straight alcohol usually served cold. We sipped on it while we talked politics and the death rates of motor scooters in Greece-all very melancholy topics (perfect conversations for a dark bookstore). Ek-plixi! (means surprise in Greek). Our Greek has been coming along too-yasis means hello, yamas=cheers and calimera= good morning. Soon, when we go to Istanbul, we will have to learn Turkish! Oh ...
Heraklion, Crete, Greece summer08... to get us eating at there place. But thankfully they didn't - with exception of one, but you have that evrywhere, don't you? "Hello come into my restaurant. We sell nice food.. fish.. meat.." and they quote the whole menu to you while all you want to do is run away. So in our case not the best way to get us to eat there. That's sounds like rather childish behaviour of us if I read that :/
I just swollowed salt water *Yuck!* The sea was lovely though - many waves!
... t block anyone," is what the consierge said. Off for lunch and coffee in the town center. Since Monday was a Greek holiday (Whit Monday), the town was bustling and the locals were all sipping coffee and people watching like true Europeans, acting mostly like Italians.. again another influence on the island. We were beat, so dinner in the room, followed by a movie and a good night's sleep.
