Fernie fun in the snow

... a closet in the condo, look it up sometime, it will amaze you!!

The next morning it was extremely sad to say goodbye to our new friends Adam & Laura. It is not that often that you met such sound people, both could make us laugh so easily and we had great times together. I am sure we will stay in touch for many years, especially now that Kristina is addicted to Facebook!! So we waved goodbye, and set sail for Edmonton to meet Kristina’s mum!

Heading back to the US

Crossed the Rockies, left Jasper National Park behind as we travel through the Kootenay region, past Fort Steele and stop at Cranbrook. Hope the truck is ready as promised tomorrow, we will drive to Kalispell once more and re-visit Eureka MT on the way. What gorgeous weather we have been granted!

Fort Steele

The next morning we had to leave this area of the Rockies and make our way down to our Dude ranch
across the border in Idaho.  We drove out of the National Park but before leaving we stopped at the Paint Pots and took a walk to see where the Indians used to collect the iron ore for their painting of teepees and facial paint.  The Iron ore is pushed to the surface so there are three large pools of terracotta colour. The indians only used what was necessary, making it into ...

My old home, ski bum memories

... cycling up to the lakes. The following day we hiked up to the top of the gondola mountain. At 2350 meters it was a sweet view. Later that night we met the Irish couple and had a whiskey and beer. Then came the rain and the following day was the proper stat of our journey.

The trail started off climbing an old forest road, used for walking, cycling and horses. It climbed and climbed. After it climbed some more and my legs were burning it leveled ...

Powdery snow is the way to go.....

... nature of passing Canadian motorists with room in the back of the vehicle for you and your ski gear. Being a leisure skier and nothing more, I simply revelled in the option of gliding across luscious terrain where ski conditions were the best I had ever experienced, and the routes were clearly marked, until my foray into the forested 'off-piste' unknown resulted in me turning back once I had spotted what looked worryingly like bear footprints in fresh snow. Nightlife was low-key ...

A Tough Initiation - The Cowboy Trail

... Staying in a high gear I pumped the pedals hard, striving to cover distance quickly. I focused hard, trying to stay in 'the zone', to keep the rhythm going. As the sun sank lower in the sky, the landscape was filled with soft, luxuriant light. Snowy peaks grew pinker by the minute and cattle at pasture lowed to their hearts' content. For an hour, maybe more, I remained absorbed in my task - then the sudden sharp pop of a stone and an uncomfortable rumble. I cursed and ...

She was a scholar for over 40 years at the University in Bangkok and is the leading voice for the ordination of women, as well as a strong activist for womens rights in a country with few of them. She is the only ordained nun in Thailand, a status which members of the male monastic community adamandtly oppose. My goal is to evaluate the affect of certain Buddhist scriptures and laws as a ...

... to go again. (Who ever said downhill skiing couldn't be a good workout?!?!) We also took a trip to the next town over to see the world's biggest truck. (We had to find some way to fill our days!) That is about all for now. Our time in Fernie is quickly coming to an end and we will shortly be revving up the van for a road trip to Vancouver Island before heading up to Jasper to start our new jobs.
