... church there was a memorial to a guy who got attacked by a bear in Dharamsala and died of his wounds. Dangerous place Dharansala!L Luckily this was in the 1800s don't think there are too many bears left around these days.

After reading the document the guy in the church gave me I realised he was the vicar! He wasn't all dressed up as he was doing the gardening. One minus point for Carole. On way out a dog which had been very ...

A Beautiful Hotel with excellent Valley view-

... Mcleodganj is best known as the headquarters of the Tibetan government in exile, and is the home of the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso. It is located at a height of 1770m. A number of residential buildings, restaurants, antique and curio shops, together with famous Tibetan institutions have lent importance to McLeodganj. The Tibetan Institute of performing Arts (TIPA) is 1km. walk from McLeodganj and preserves a number of musical dance and theatrical ...

Mountains upon mountains

I visited my placement today. It is definitely going to be a challenge. I have two weeks with three autistic children. I am worried about making an impact. I might have to make more of an impact by setting up a plan and getting them started rather than think... wow I'm going to seriously change things because really I know better than to think that. After dinner we had a drop off ...

Jon's Adventure in Triund

... that he had 7 hours to make it back to our meeting spot, Jonathan spent over 3 hours at the summit; resting, reading, meditating, sleeping and gaining strength for the journey home. Speaking for the rest of our group, we were all exhausted after making it to the top, and after spending out time up there, the only thing we wanted was to get down and rest. We just jumped on the same path down and make it back in no time. Along the way we were surprised at ...

... at a group lunch and then we went home. And two hours later my family left for Delhi. Right. So I was just chilling there by myself which was fine, the room had a great view of the mountains and I was near a monastery so I could here the monks chanting in the morning. There was a very kind older woman upstairs who I ate meals with and we became quite good friends. One morning I came up for breakfast and I asked her how she slept. She said not well, she ...

... so its so affordable and totally worth getting up that early. After yoga we ate breakfast. I am quickly learning that here in India coffee is very hard to come by and tea is really the staple of each meal. ths morning, hovever, I decided to make some instant coffee for myself.........NOT GOOD. If you ever go to India, embrace the tea obsession- its so good! And wow..the Chai here is to die for. Compared to Starbucks (the only other Chai I've had) this Chai is like heaven ...

6 near death moments at the end of the world

Our last day in Rishikesh was spent networking with travelers and visiting tourism offices to determine the best way to get to Dharamsala in western Himachal Pradesh...the seat of the Tibetan government in exile and the Dalai Lama. The Journey across the mountainous state of HP could be made by local bus for about $4 in16 hours. The problem is that you are not guarenteed a seat of your own...people pile into the ...

Life from the Suppe

Shame on China, Free Tibet!

... It is cold. The roads are very steep and wind from side to side to ascend. My legs hurt. My chest is frequently painful. But the views are really quite amazing. All the buildings are built hanging onto the side of the mountain, higgledy piggledy on top of each other with narrow winding steep alleys in between. The downside of this is that it is a bit of a clamber and scramble to get anywhere. The plus side is that practically everyone gets a piece of the view. * There ...
