... hour to get some cash, pick up groceries or check our email and so we set off in a group. I struggled not to gawk at the women who were covered completely, including their faces, it was so hot I had trouble imagining what it must feel like. It turned out there was not a single supermarket in town and the one ATM did not take our card, so we borrowed money from the girls and then we all headed to an internet café.

Hurrying back in the heat we made ...
Kendwa, Tanzania claraz8... the night market where everyone has dinner and saw an amazing selection of local foods being cooked up. (and because Ramadan had just ended, every man and his dog was out too!). Dinner was at Mercury's (named after Freddy Mercury from Queen as he was born in Zanzibar) where T and I shared a banana/ pinapple pizza that was surprisingly VERY nice! Tropicana I think it was called. Even the meat-atarians liked it!
In the morning we had a spice tour that ...
Nungwi, Zanzibar Archipelago, Tanzania purplebuggy... boring.... we did get some Eddie Murphy flick and then some national geographic african animal tv doco. I'm not really sure what is so express about it... we still stopped a lot... I wonder what the Dar Go slow would be like....?

Got the giggles when random clothing starting falling from the storage above right on to my head. Nungwi, Zanzibar Archipelago, Tanzania shonamary... fine white sand. There were modern resorts continuing at least several miles to the nearby vilage Nungwi. I swam in the ocean, then went to a dive shop called Spanish Dancer and arranged to go diving the next day. Afterwards, I walked up on the beach engoying the beautiful sunset. I walked in the direction opposite the resorts, and after I passed a small cape, the most incredible view appeared in front of me - a small bay where there were several fishing dhow boats ...
Kendwa, Tanzania bilieva... day and although we got rained on as the boat left the resort, the weather soon cleared up and we had a great day snorkelling around the reefs and then relaxing on another sand-island. That night we shared an enormous sea-food platter and a cheeky glass of vino or two as we realised it was exactly one year till we tie the knot!

So what’s next? Lushoto is in our sights, a mountain town surrounded by thick rainforest, a real change from the parts of Tanzania we’ve seen so far!
Pangani, Tanzania chriskateOh my god, seriously why do Muslims think it necessary to scream down a microphone at every bloody hour of the morning, their screeching waking everyone in the whole damn city. Possibly country for that matter. Ahhhhhhh. I wonder how they would feel if I did the same preaching the antichrist.. or anti Allah or whatever. Anyway.... between the wailing and drunken antics at the bar didn't get too much sleep but that doesn't matter CAUSE WE'RE OFF TO ZANZIBAR! YAY!! Woke at ...
Nungwi, Zanzibar Archipelago, Tanzania oliveramber... I was not going in their expensive taxi after I insisted for 15 minutes that I wanted the dala dala). I heard many different prices for this as well, between 2,500 shillings and 5,000 shillings. (It ended up costing 2,000, which is less then $2). One of the guys at the hotel actually ended up being very nice and even walked me there and helped me find the right dala dala. The ride was great! It was an open vehicle, a truck I guess. Well, it had a roof but the sides ...
Nungwi, Zanzibar Archipelago, Tanzania courtenay... later. We splashed about in the sea and saw some rather large jelly fish, I wasn't about to get stung by one, so I left the sea rapidly and went into a sea water pool beside the beach instead. After a while we return to being beach bums, sitting in the shade, reading our books. It's not something I'd want to do regularly - but yeah, being a beach bum for a few hours had its pluses. We had another spectacular view of the sun setting, it was stunning.
Nungwi, Zanzibar Archipelago, Tanzania travelmonster... wasn't even in the expensive hotels! It just felt like we were on a package holiday and it really wasn't to Karls liking at all. Was good to see some local dancers in a restaurant though for entertainment on my one and only night out! The next day we were going to head to the East of the Island to see the other beaches but the rain just bucket'ed down and therefore we decided to head back to the mainland (and ended up feeling completely sick on the rough seas instead!)
Nungwi, Zanzibar Archipelago, Tanzania mandy_karlAfter our spice tour, we headed to Nungwi beach on the north end of the island. The beaches on Zanzibar are picture perfect - soft white sand and bright turquoise ocean. Armed with SPF 60 sunscreen, I was ready for some fun in the sun. As well as splashing around on the beach for a few days and despite the heat and humidity, we did manage to do our debriefing work, and we spent two mornings holding a ...
