... much as predicted, the ground speed generally varied from 70 to 60 knots, but luckily I was able to request a direct route about an hour into the flight, so probably flew about 550 miles in just over 8 hours, and was comforted to still have over 2 hours fuel on landing. We had an uneventful flight from Athens to Heraklion. Our travel agent had arranged for our hotel to pick us up from the airport but, when we arrived no-one was there. A very helpful Greek man phoned the hotel for us and, after waiting 30-60 mins, our driver arrived. (We were very impressed at how friendly and helpful the Greek people were!)
