... big, nicely laid out park so there's plenty of room to walk. A two mile long trail follows the east bank of the Rogue River and there's plenty of room along the interior roads to stretch road weary muscles. The park is like any Oregon state park that we have visited- well maintained. Unfortunately the manicured turf in and around the campsites has gone brown due to severe drought conditions but that didn't really detract from the experience.

Monday, July 6, 2015. PCT day 78 miles 1189.2-1198 Today is a nero day. I slept in until 06:30 and left camp by 0730. The trail was all downhill, 8.5 miles into Sierra City, which is at 4200 feet elevation. It definitely felt warmer/hotter down here. I arrived here by 11:30ish. The small town is only about a mile from the trail. I set up camp by the local church. I had my cold shower ...

It is still mostly volcanic and forestry. The hiking was mellow with easy climbs. It was in the 40s this morning. It felt like it got up to the low 80s by mid afternoon. It felt muggy. No rain, tho. I so appreciate the tree canopy shade, making the heat more bearable. Another thing I ...

... missed it by about a week probably.

Portola is such a lovely little town in the Plumas forest, about 60 miles from Lake Tahoe. Yesterday, Chris and Laura took us to a photography exhibition by Phillip Hyde who was a protege of the incredible Ansel Adams. The photography was beautiful and the gallery also displayed some work by friends of Chris and Laura which was lovely to see. After the exhibition, we went to a real small town community event - ...
