Monday, July 6, 2015. PCT day 78 miles 1189.2-1198 Today is a nero day. I slept in until 06:30 and left camp by 0730. The trail was all downhill, 8.5 miles into Sierra City, which is at 4200 feet elevation. It definitely felt warmer/hotter down here. I arrived here by 11:30ish. The small town is only about a mile from the trail. I set up camp by the local church. I had my cold shower ...

This 9 days is volunteer work, but it is all expenses paid which has been amazing for my budget.

We are working directly underneath the Sierra Buttes which are a pretty spectacular series of mountain ridges. We had a new moon ...

After 2 nights staying at the trail angels - Warren and Jill's - place, we decided to head over to a new hostel in town in order not to overstay our welcome. Being endlessly generous they told us not to be ridiculous and invited us to a day of white water rafting in a couple of days time (being ex-rafting instructors). We were definitely keen for that and it gave us an excuse to stay in town for a while longer. That day we headed off to Reno and Carson ...
