Home again

Just a quick note...

Jacqui and I made it back home from our awesome 16 day cruise. I'm gonna work on posting up all of the days' entries and pictures.

We still haven't sold our house yet... But on a good note, the house wasn't buried in snow when we got home either! I'm heading out to Brazil on Saturday, so we've got a lot to finish up before then.
Let's go cruising!

... for Jacqui and me after I finish the job in Russia. It looks like there is a transatlantic cruise from Rome to Fort Lauderdale leaving Rome the day I am planning to leave Russia (which will be a tight connection)... If the cruise line will agree to let me board the ship in Florence the next day if I miss the departure in Rome...that sounds pretty good to me. Oh ...

Fridgid ride and lotsa lakes

... they lead. One in particular turned out to be really good until it ended at a dirt road with a hand-painted "No trespassing" sign. It was one of those signs that I figured had an old guy with a gun who would back it up so ...

PEDAL FASTER!!!!

A couple days ago I found out that the Lake George Triathlon was looking for motorcycle volunteers to help patrol the bike course. Seemed like a good excuse to shiny up the bike and get to ride in places I'm not normally allowed to...like on the bike paths! I did have to wake up at the ********** of dawn to get to enjoy this though.

So when I arrived at the volunteer tent, I was told that they needed me to ...

Day 10 - Lake George to Easton (45 miles)

The first part of the ride from the village of Lake George to Glens Falls is mostly on a bike trail. It was nice to have a shorter, much flatter ride the next day down to Easton Mountain, where I attended a retreat over Labor Day weekend.
Day 9 - Schroon Lake & Lake George (80 miles)

... south down the woodsy east side of the lake. To get to the western shore of Lake George, I had to tackle the biggest climb of the trip up CR 11 - not recommended at the end of a long day - but spectacular views down across the lake at the summit. That night, I camped at a fantastic state campground right on the banks of the lake.
Day 4 - Waiting out the deluge (18 miles)

Someone up there must like us - it rained all day Saturday, but we had booked Friday and Saturday nights at the Glen Lodge so we didn't need to bike. Although, since we didn't have a car, we were getting cabin fever by evening, and biked down to Warrensburg to get some dinner. Otherwise, I got a lot of reading done.
Day 3 - Scotia to Warrensburg (70 miles)

The morning was chilly and overcast, but dry as we headed north. Hills increased as we approached the southern border of Adirondack Park, roads became more quiet, and the scenery more striking. This strenuous day which ended with a climb of over a mile and then a fast descent into the Warrensburg area.
Reflections

... americans. Now, I am not defending this massacre in any way, except to say that this kind of behavior was not unique to the US. I know that that does not in any way make it right. I just mean that when people call Americans "bad" for doing that, they should not turn around and call French people "good." How do you think they got their land? Probably a destruction of some people or another. We're babies, so we're bound to be loud and obnoxious ...

I'll Miss the Jordan River Parkway

The night before I left, I took my bike and rode along the Jordan River Parkway near Saratoga Springs, watching a beautiful sunset go behind the mountains. Sometimes I like to just be alone.
