Another day, another early start. Yeah, this is a very relaxing "holiday". I need another one just to get over it! Anyway, I set off to Memphis with some trepidation after hearing nothing but horror stories, mostly a little something like this 'oh yeah, I was mugged in Memphis, what you going there for?' But, in the words of one other hosteler (mugged in St Louis - my next stop) 'sometimes you gotta just go'. Yeah man! Went straight to my hotel via a taxi so I could get rid of my bag which di...
Memphis, Tennessee, United States vicarooOooh, this was a busy day. Survived my first night in Mugphis unscathed, and it didn't seem so bad really yesterday. Plenty of people willing to give you compliments...and then ask you for money! Speaking of money, my first stop today was the Peabody Hotel. A little out my price league. In what is possibly the randomest thing I've seen (for a few days), everyday at 11am the Peabody Ducks come down in the elevator, walk up the red carpet, and climb into the fountain, where they remain all day....

Tomorrow we head for Louisiana and hope we will be traveling with sunshine and a temperature of at least 60.
So glad our 5th wheel has a furnace and portable heaters.
Despite the weather the Mississippi River view is gorgeous, Graceland was nostalgic and the Corvette Museum is what dream cars are made of.
Louisiana beckons....
The Mrs.
... Elvis music is being played in the background as you go through room by room. The final stop is Elvis's burial memorial along with his parents and brother.
For any Elvis fan it is a dream trip come true as you view all of his memorabilia.
As for me- it brought memories of my youth and the songs we danced to in a bygone era.
Next stop- West Monroe, LA
... IL to Memphis, TN
Memphis, Tennessee, United States kayaker902... gate that has recently changed to another gate located across the airport...then sit back and let the hilarity ensue! This was our entertainment as we sat and ate lunch.
Thanks to everyone at the James for the send off cake, card and well-wishes! Lauren has the card with her to help get her through any tough times!
... Anyway, after I'd ordered 12 nuggets and a chicken salad sandwich, I exited stage left to await my order in the fresh outdoors :)
I-40 was a madhouse. It was bumper to bumper city traffic, so by 5.30 pm we got the ***** and exited off to some place called Hurricane Mills. Anyway, it was a nice, quiet little motel where we decided to spend the night quietly watching TV. Only problem was it didn't have Internet access or cable TV. Yawn!!!
... time change. Tons of cops/state troopers out today. We had sandwiches in the car Mom made for us this morning. We went straight to Graceland to check it out before heading downtown to the hotel. We snapped pics and a peak of Heartbreak Hotel, Elvis's planes and the outside of the Mansion. The area around Graceland was really run down and down right pretty scary. Can't believe the city would let the are around there get to that point given the ...
Memphis, Tennessee, United States heelsoutwest... Have brought a 8 cd Spanish learning set. Need to get a good grounding for when I reach Central and South America. The promise by Michelle Thomas (the course lecturer) is that I'll have a good grounding within 12 hours. Ou'est la Piscine sil vous plait? During a petrol stop I had the misfortune to park next to a pickup truck with big lights, huge antlers on the front and full of rednecks drinking beer. Looked like all they were doing was sitting there ...
Memphis, Tennessee, United States rolls... was labeled a 'suite', but was just a large room with a sofa, dorm fridge, and microwave at one end, separated from the beds and bathroom by a hip-high protrusion from the walls. We bought some heat-n-eat meals at Walgreens and used the microwave. The room had outside doorways, and in this heat, it heated up pretty fast every time the door opened. Breakfast was basic - cereals, toast, English muffins, bagels, coffee, Sunny D, milk.
