Today was a long drive up towards Vancouver, we planned to drive most of California State, and find accomodation close to the border of CA & Oregon. But a little Jet lag set in, and we were up at about 5 this morning, deciding to finish up and get going. We travelled the interstate 5 the whole way - since that is most direct, and quickest way. The first part of CA was not very interesting, reminding us of the Karoo type driving, when you're on your way too Cape Town. Flat, semi-desert and...

Went back to Eugene then I headed to the Umpqua Forest which is central Oregon in the mountains. Ahhh, it was beautiful. Great campground with fun people who liked to play music. Great river, lakes, forest, meadows... can't really describe it all, it was nice.

One of my highlights ...
Idleyld Park, Oregon, United States sjandbuddyNot much to tell about Roseburg and our stay here, although it is a nice little town and the back balcony of our room looked out over the Umpqua River, with accompanying ducks and interesting birds of a sort we don't see in Alabama. We needed to wash clothes and gather our wits before driving to Crater Lake, Mt. Shasta, and into California -- so Roseburg is it.
Roseburg, Oregon, United States janemh... a trail called Founders Grove. It is called that because a group of people back in 1931 got together to 'Save the Redwood Trees'. Imagine that, conservationalists way abck then - what foresight they had. I turned at Highway 199 and went North and East towards Oregon. Within about 15 miles the Redwoods stopped to be replaced with Fir trees. Redwoods only grow on the coast in California and Oregon ...
Roseburg, Oregon, United States muggeragem... now hooked up with our friends and we are going to travel in a caravan (three coaches and one car) to our next destination which we expect to be Corning, California. We are going to stay at Rolling Hills RV Park which is attached to a casino. The reason for some of this apparent urgency is that the weather is good and we want to get through the mountain passes in the Siskiyou's as there is no snow. Will write again from our next destination.
Canyonville, Oregon, United States shipling... farmland. One of the joys of riding a motorcycle is the fact that you're much more a part of your environment instead of passing through it in an insulated bubble. The varying smells of forest and field add to the enjoyment of the ride. Soon I'm exiting the freeway at Roseburg, winding my way through town and following a road that parallels a stream to my cousins Larry and Marie who live on the top of a hill outside town. Their ...
Roseburg, Oregon, United States graybeard... itinerary changes constantly. The thought of actually experiencing the places I have read about seems like a nice daydream..... I am both excited and nervous. I can only aniticipate the experience and cannot wait for the reality of being back in the homeland, a place I have never known but I feel it inside of me somehow. No winner, participation was down, but we are hoping for some renewed interest. Answer to bonus question from yesterday: Kansas. So said a roadside sign. Probably has something to do with Eisenhower. We awoke to a great day in Bend, found a quirky coffee shop for Ann, had breakfast in a park and left south. Since this was a National Park-centric day, Paul will ...
Roseburg, Oregon, United States allobrWe made it to Mick's home about 7 PM.. Mick and I met in Key West about fifteen years ago, we had identical sailboats. I was pulling into a marina in my boat after a 50 mile sail from Islamorada and he caught my lines as I entered the dock. We started talking about our vessels and decided to go to dinner and have been friends since then. He was on the first sailing trip I ever made to Cuba and sadly on that trip the US Coast Guard cut our ...
