... An old wooden aqueduct carried water to the mill. A hopper slowly fed corn into a grinding stone. It was pretty neat to watch. We had planned on having a barbecue lunch in Cherokee, NC but, surprisingly, there was no BBQ restaurant there. I settled for a Texas big burger from Hardees. It was good.

Today we were basically spending the day driving. It was supposed to be a 6.5 hour drive which quickly extended to 8 hours because heading out of Washington we were stuck in crazy bumper to bumper traffic. The whole van basically slept on and off for most of the morning. We stopped off at a rest stop for lunch. There was a water fountain which people really struggled to use, all ages ...

We decided to have a late start on Monday morning. Our original plan was to drive to Nashville late in the morning, check into a hotel to secure our luggage and then go to the music hall of fame. After some discussion, we decided that Nashville really was a several day excursion and one we would rather do by flying or driving to in a vehicle. Nashville is a big city and big cities are often not very nice to travel through on motorbikes.

... out last night. Woke up by the stream, right before sunrise. I cowboy camped last night, so was able to just stare straight up at the tree tops, as the sun came up. Great way to start the morning. Did a quick 1.5 miles to the shelter, ate breakfast and caught up with some friends. Decided to do a short day, only 13 miles to the next shelter.
