      Nothing is perfect

A travel blog entry by jchende on Feb 07, 2015

Spent the day with the realtor in Venice. We now know this drive of an hour down and an hour back, by heart. Saw 6 properties, 3 of which would be great EXCEPT... The little gray house in our realtor's neighborhood. Beautifully redone inside, could be bought with the furniture, has a pool, you can walk/bike to the beach BUT the price is close to $300,000 and the neighborhood is very mixed. Some properties are a little run down, while others have had some updating and it ...

Turn the calendar from January 31 to Feb 1 and this place changes dramatically. The island has gone from a sleepy peaceful place with few people, mostly older, to more traffic, more people. Lots of familys, younger people. They tell me "the season" here is Feb and March and this has been very evident this week. Standing in front of the rental agency on Pine Ave I watched several different families arrive to check in. Midwest plates mainly. ...

We walked on the beautiful St. Pete's beach every day, sometimes twice a day, and generally relaxed, reading and watching tv. This is a summer vacation town and there's not much else to do here, especially in the off season.

After a couple days, we drove north to the Florida panhandle, staying for the weekend in ...

... hour is affectionately known as "501" to Mote people. Mote closes at 5:00. Thus, at precisely 5:01 on the dot, we should be booking it over to the Old Salty Dog next to Mote for a drink. The Tuesday volunteers, namely a guy named Bruce, are very fun and usually do a 501 once a month. Since this past Tuesday was my last day and the volunteers actually like me, Bruce gathered forces for a 501 to say goodbye to me. I always talk about my turtles, but ...

Somehow, I have already been interning at Mote for five weeks. Time really does fly when you are having fun. I apologize for my lack of updating and writing about what I am doing. I guess I am just living a little too much life to actually take the time to reflect on it. I'll work on that.
