... this time of year. There was a line that stretched from St. Louis, through Omaha and then into the middle of South Dakota. The best plan I could come up was to aim for the southern tip near St. Louis, then turn for Omaha.

Two things stand out about today: (1) It was the 93rd birthday of Marv Welstead of Fremont, one of our campaign's premier and much-valued volunteers, and (2) Marv invited me to speak to the Fremont Rotary Club on his birthday, arranged the whole thing, and even introduced me!
What you do on your birthday, you do all year long . . . and if Marv Welstead will continue to support my campaign all year long, I will be a very lucky man.

It was very nice of Marv to team up with Gail and Mike Dwyer and Patty and Scott Meister to host a campaign event for me at the Fremont Golf Club. We surprised Marv with a big birthday cake, which he loved. We later learned that he shared the extra pieces with local people who are caregivers for those with Alzheimer's Disease. That made us even more proud of him, always thinking of others!

Some people are hosting phone bank nights at our campaign office and arranging for their "14's" to come in shifts. One is hosting a "stuffing party" for a big mailing that's coming up.

Big crowd and lots of interesting conversations at the Fremont Golf Club as the Fremont Chamber of Commerce held its annual banquet.
