In the spirit of entering into local culture this Sunday morning, we decided on a full gospel service at the very large, nearby Mt Zion Baptist Church. We pulled into a huge car park which was already full, with loads of parking attendants on hand, and quickly realised that we were the only white people amongst the thousands streaming in for worship – and apart from one or two others, that was also true once inside the huge auditorium. ... An hour later I pulled into the Northgate RV park in Athens Alabama. Same guy met me on the porch, said "howdy y'all" and signed me in again. Today we decided to watch The Amazing Team Challenge which is when riders try their skills on a course that is set up. Well 'watching' turned out to be PARTICIPATING. Our friends and some others managed to persuade me to ride and glad I did too. What a blast. Traffic cones defined a set course that you had to ride without hitting ...

... boxing Kangaroo was given pride of place right up front with all the USA state flags which did seem rather strange. We would have thought it would have been the USA, Canada, GWRRA, 50 states, then the international flags. But hey, we are not complaining. We feel very proud to be up there with all the American flags.

What a wonderful route, through an historic suburb which contains the States largest collection of Antebellum homes. It ...
