After driving back highways through a lush and hilly eastern end of Texas, I finally crossed into Louisiana.  A few miles into the state, traffic slowed at a police checkpoint.  Now some of you may not know, but I was a little worried about being profiled as a loony left coaster in my eco-friendly car with California plates.  While I may have nothing to fear, my concern was about getting pulled over for going 4 miles over the speed ...

... then decided to abandon that stopover. We headed out about 4:35 pm after discovering that Elizabeth was in need of a new rear tire. 40 km into the ride, the sky lit up with bolt and sheet lightening and we headed for the first gas station in Fenton, Louisiana which provided shelter during the subsequent downpour. Our 1st main stop was not a True Blood location however but Nottoway Plantation, which we reached along the i10 listening to classic American road-trip songs which we had pre-downloaded on Spotify. The interstates are really good for getting between places quick, but they are fairly dull, mile after mile ...

... because someone thought 5:30 a.m. was a good time to fly out. But instead of sleeping I will lay their with my thoughts running 90 miles an hour - is everything packed, did I get everything done at work that I should have, am I crazy for going away for two whole weeks? Can only hope that by the time the plane lands in Honolulu, I will be able to relax, leave all my worries behind and enjoy all that Hawaii has to offer.

Made it to our campsite in Louisiana.

... three hour drive into New Orleans so we should be there by noon. Our campsite is very nice. Has water and electrical outlets right next to the picnic table and even has a shower in the bathroom. I'm a little confused about how Louisiana handles the finances of their parks because we had to drive on a dirt road to get to the park but when we got here the bathrooms were air conditioned. I'm not complaining though because with the humidity I will take any air conditioning I can ...
