... for gas and saw a sign for Wilson Lake, the "clearest lake in Kansas." Couldn't say no to that. Well, I ended up on some dirt road for miles traveling east (the opposite direction I intended on driving). Finally I reached Wilson Lake, which was beautiful. I was in a park area that had tons of parking and strangely no cars. I would have gone for a dip but it was getting late and I was becoming more tired. I found my way back to I-70 and got back on the highway a few exits east ...
I feel refreshed! Ready for more of Kansas. Atwood is a cute little town. A man in St Francis told me of a park next to Atwood lake that has camping. When I got there, it wasn't clear where/if I needed to pay, so I just set up right in the grass by the lake. In that situation, I figure the workers will come talk to me if they want money. After we quickly set up camp, we had a light supper, took our evening walk, and went to bed. Ready for another long drive ...
Left Denver at around 9.15. We drove all morning, reaching Colby, Kansas in time for a relaxed lunch. Afterwards, whilst hanging about outside the vans we were interviewed by a group who purported to be from Japanese TV, 'chasing' a Japanese chaser..may just have been for YouTube but what the heck, we indulged them and gave ETT some free advertising. We stayed around for a while, watching a thunderstorm developing....then set off ...
