Sofia, Bulgaria loobylou1986... in the Balkans, but Johnie took me out for the best roast lamb I've ever had. It was a little place just off the highway about 5km/3mi west of his flat in New Belgrade, full of mostly truckers and unknown to most Belgraders. There was a little aluminum smokestack out front where they cooked the lamb fresh, of which we destroyed a kilo, garnished with a cabbage, bread, and red wine. As Johnie would put it, I absolutely adore the place.<br ...
Sofia, Bulgaria david_chung... even to this day. Russia had liberated Bulgaria from Ottoman 'slavery' (their word not mine), and as a result the Bulgarians, probably uniquely amongst Eastern Europeans, are well disposed toward the Mother Land. The mountain was beautiful, and the company excellent. And so it was with a tinge of sadness that I sat on the climbing frame strumming away my final evening in Bulgaria, I look forward to going back some day.
Sofia, Bulgaria benjermaicus... another world compared to the previous car we were in. The whole car smelled like a dirty bathroom with toliets that didn't flush. We made our way down the narrow walkway and peered into the boxes to see if there were any available seats. The lights in the car made it seem like a horror movie because most of them were off while others flickered every so often revealing the dirty walls and seats. All the boxes we passed were either full of people or there were people who ...
Sofia, Bulgaria jhdavis... the top of Vitosha Mont! Next morning we went for opening ceremony in National museum, where is also situated impressive Thracean collection and other interesting collections from Bulgarian territory and history. Next day we had a short time to visit Sofia which is interesting city ,and I have to say it looks quite better and cleaner than 2 years ago . Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria, and also it's biggest ...
Sofia, Bulgaria keplam... same few blocks at first then gradually widening my search. I was getting increasingly flustered and frustrated, as the night was drawing in, I could not read the street signs, and I was unable to call the hostel because my mobile wouldn´t work. A couple of times I asked passing locals if they knew my hostel and asked if I could use their phone to call it. I was struggling to make myself understood, however, and things were further complicated by the fact that - much to ...

Sofia, Bulgaria nstarkey77... famous one is definitely Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. It was erected from 1904 to 1912 in memory of 200,000 Russians who fought alongside Bulgarians for its independence in 1878. It is possibly the most popular tourist site in Sofia. At its middle, a huge gold dome that is surrounded by several lower emerald-colored domes. Inside, more than 400 frescoes were contributed by artists from Bulgaria and Russia. When I was inside ...
Sofia, Bulgaria whk2006... hostel, and we spent the ride to the train station discussing how hard it was to be away from a significant other while traveling. "It's hell" he said, and I was qutie inclined to agree with him. We split a compartment and after a hour of conversation we finally slept. He left the train early at 4 AM, at the border crossing where he had left his rental car. After exchanging cards and shaking hands, I was off to the rest of Greece and Salonkia.
Sofia, Bulgaria grenzenlos... other peoples for centuries; only receiving their independence not much more than a hundred years ago. Bulgarians, in general, are very reserved. However once you break that initial barrier, they are some of the nicest, most caring people in the world. Every Bulgarian, whether they are elderly and frail or energetic teenagers, can recount for you every bit of Bulgarian history - beginning with the Greeks and ending with the fall of communism a mere 14 ...
