... and by the second half of day 1 were going right to the very top of the mountain which is over 10,000ft to ski the trails down. On the second day it was extremely powdery and there was a High Avalanche warning which was a bit scary but apparently is still fine to ski if you keep to the trails. The soft snow makes it harder to ski and Billy found himself snow up to his waist after trying his skills on an advanced trail - silly billy.
Today it was the Giant Slalom. Two runs several hours apart with the lowest total time the winner. As it was yesterday skiers only have a course inspection several hours before. The day was not too cold and the course was once again in perfect condition. You really must congratulate the organisers as the course has been immaculately prepared for all these races. ... and calzone washed down with Crazy Mountain Amber Ale, a great local draft beer on tap. Watched a fashion parade for the rich and famous. Ski jackets around $2k +. Certainly not fashion for the everyday person. It was still fun to watch though. Finished off the evening with another champagne from the Korbel Ice Bar - totally carved out of ice it certainly kept the champagne chilled just the way we like it. Enjoying this lifestyle!

As this event is a precursor to the World Championships here in Feb 2015 there were many more sponsors tents and promotions than at Aspen. We visited them all and came away with a bag of goodies - champagne stoppers, key rings, luggage tags, stickers, t shirt, toe warmers, lip balms, several cowbells, picnic rugs, posters and a supply of breakfast/ muesli ...

After marvellous sunny weather for our trip so far the last two days we have had overcast skies. Not quite the bluebird days we were hoping for but still high enough cloud that we could see the spectacular view from the top of Beaver Creek Mountain (3488m high). It was time to unpack the ski bags and try out our new skis.
Stephen headed up the hill in the morning to find his way around and check out the terrain. Me being the cautious one ...
