Today we knew exactly what we wanted to do....drive Independence Pass!! Sarah and Josh had told us how awesome it was so we just had to find out for ourselves!

Independence Pass is only open in the summer so would be closed soon...if you look it up I'm sure it will show you the route but it basically takes you down through Minturn, then through Leadville (the highest city in ...

After our first night in our new place we were enjoying just having a bed to lay in and not being in a rush to get ready.

We skyped with Darrens Nan and Granddad for a while and showed them the place then got ready to go out. The colours of the leaves are all different autumnal shades of reds, orange and yellows so we wanted to go to Vail to see them...it only took us about 10 minutes to drive there ...

I will not have made it without Theo as he mentionned on FB, 40 days, 10 000 miles, 25 states and al least 12 National parks.

Aspen reminded me a bit of Banff, cute little ski/snowboard town with lots of hikes in the summer.

Unfortunately, I did not realize how high up Aspen is (2400m above sea level) and once we started our hike at Maroon Bells, I felt quite dizzy and tired. Turns out I must have had some sort of altitude sickness at 3000m above sea level... That happened on our hike in Santa Fe as well.. well, now I know :)

I recovered quickly and finished the hike at least...

... of waterfalls all the way up. No pictures--we were concentrating in the road! On the way back, we took what we thought was a short cut, but it turned out to be a long cut--we did see some new country. We were glad to get back on a paved road! This afternoon we packed everything up & took our last walk here. We're loaded and ready to head out for our next stop tomorrow ...
