Kruger National Park. WOW!!!!

Well holy god, what a way to start our adventures! After two days in Jo'burg, doing, err, nothing, we flew into Nelspruit near Kruger National Park, rented a jeep so we could be high off the ground to spot stuff, and drove to our first Campground, Skukuza. Entering the park, about 50m inside the gate, I thought I saw something and pulled to the side of the road. "Its a bloody Leopard" I said, after all my wishes of seeing one (they are shy and the hardest of all the cats to spot) I couldnt b...

Day 2 - Departure to Kruger National Park

Ezulwini Valley, Swaziland to Kruger National Park, South Africa (Via Nelspruit) We packed all of our stuff up and all got into the All Out Africa minibus, Heather was also coming with us. She's from Brighton and is an actress. I started to feel a bit rough and slightly sick once we got going, but the drive was amazing and the scenery was awesome. Different from the flat boring plains of Kent. The windy and bumpy roads probably wern't helping my sickness, but it was worth it. After crossing t...

More Safari

Day 4 - More safari This was another safari day, only more awesome. The weather was again perfect, I love getting up for sunrise. Just after the sun came up we saw a whole herd of elephants pass the road in front of us, one elephant started eating a tree, literally 3 metres away from us. There was even one elephant that started flapping its ears and showed some sign of aggression towards us, we had to reverse to get our distance. This made the adrenaline flow, but was something to laugh about...

Safari

We woke up at 4:00am to go on a morning walk, it was still very much dark so we all trooped down to the reception where we met our two rangers and their guns. The nights are very cold in winter, and this one was especially so. We sat on a safari truck for a good 30 minutes. I don't think I've ever been this cold in my life, must of been 5 degrees C but the wind chill on this truck was unbearable. It was another clear day though and we could see the sun slowly creeping up and we were all willi...

Finished our amazing 4 day Safari in Kruger Park

(entered by Derek) After wine till 1 am, we were up at 6am for our trip to Kruger National Park (http://www.krugerpark.co.za/). Surprised to find out that it was over a 6 hour drive (with food stops) we arrived into the extremely hot Game Park. We spent 4 amazing days with a great tour company, Bundo Safari, who pretty much had us fully booked with events. Day 1: Drive to Kruger Park. We had the opportunity to see 3 of the "Big 5" (the 5 most deadly animals in the park, or hardest to kill.......

Shy Kudu and dueling Impala

Click here for all Kruger photos After driving back to Berg-en-Dal camp we were on our own again armed with a load more information on animal tracking. We almost immediately ran into a giraffe just after we left camp as he was crossing the road in front of us. We later watched a group of at least 20 vultures circling in the sky above what we can only assume was a kill. 5 of the Africa white backed vultures ended up landing in the tree just next to our car. We went out of the park to do some s...

Kruger National Park

Arrived at Kruger National Park having seen Giraffe about 1 minute after entering. The biggest game reserve in Africa boasting all of the big 5 certainly gave us a good share of the big 5 but not the lion! We did 5:30 morning game drives which was great but really cold being an open top vehicle and after about 5 minutes I was struggling to not nod off. At Kruger we saw Elephant, Zebra, Leopard (apparently really rare to see), Giraffe, Buffalo, about a billion Impala and a list of other animal...

Day 131 - SA, Skukuza - Kruger NP

Meant to have a sleep in but when Oliver left at 6.30 to walk to high lookout with news of good weather I couldn't get back to sleep so in an effort to surprise and fasten I rose and packed away the tent... loving the pop up! Was caught by surprise when I stepped out of the tent only to come near face to face with a baboon. Errrr scary animals. You could hear the pitta patter of their feet in the bushes and the occasional growl. Ugly ugly beats. I had further contact with nature when I steppe...

Krüger Park - Day 1

Kruegerthe exploration of the small view point in the misty weather of this beautiful canyon we drive to the low lands to the entry of the Krüger NP. Here the weather is much better and the game viewing adventure can start. As it is early afternoon, the initial result is not as spectacular, but towards the evening before arriving to the camp, we have seen Rhinos, Elephants, Giraffes, Monkeys,Baboonss,Antelopess and as well Lions The children are very impressed and we have our satisfaction as ...

Into the Wild

... The tour guides seemed very friendly and strangely enough I know one of them from my previous Namibia tour although then he wasn't my guide. The chances of this happening are about 1 in 80 and yet it did. We headed out for our long drive with a few short stops along the way. Mostly the scenery wasn't spectacular but it was nice to see some of the smaller towns. I call South Africa, "Africa Lite" because so much of what I've seen, especially in Cape Town is not the ...

Kruger

... for this decision spotting more lion, had a leopard cross within metres of the back of our car, seeing elephants, jackals, warthog, baboon, impala and various bocks. We were by this stage running out of time so started to ignore sightings and headed for the gate. We still had several Km to go and it was about 5.30 when we came on a car stopped and people looking excitably to the right. Curiosity got the better of us and we stopped to investigate, but ...
