... the way. I could almost imagine being there at Christmas with all the snow around! The village of Tralkai is completely surrounded by lakes, and on one of the islands in the lake is a castle. We wandered around the outside of the castle, and then started to walk around the lakes, occasionally stopping so Pip could feed the ducks, or to watch a fisherman out in his wooden boat. ... rest of the church was basic.

We made Town Hall around noon. It was a bit muggy. People will be going their separate ways today soon.

Walked past the Church of St Casimir, the first baroque church in the city. It is a Russian Orthodox church, crowned on top by indeed a crown.

When we did eventually make it into Uzupis, we figured out that we hadn't crossed the Vilnia River at all ...

Mean Streets

... county's dark history, including the fight against Soviet occupation which eventually led to their independence in 1990. There are original weapons and belongings of soldiers from both the Nazi and Soviet eras. At the side of the exercise yard out the back, the old execution chamber is still there. I got there after everything else and I'm glad I did. Standing on the very spot where a lot of people were shot in the head by KGB agents pretty much did me for the day.
