... decided not to join them in sailing to Assos, which was ~20 mi south down the coast. The terrain between the two cities is mountainous and the walk would have been taxing. But, Luke records that this is what Paul had arranged. This was a planned solo venture by Paul on land while his fellow missionary associates sailed by ship. ... We jumped from a pontoon. At first I was a little scared, but then I got used to it. We ate hotdogs for lunch. Then we all played cricket on the beach. We also had a big BBQ at night.

The drive was only about 450 KM but it took forever on small roads with pot holes in Bulgaria. Crossing from Bulgaria to Greece the customs were yet again confused but 'Ferri Bot Istanbul' explained everything. The Greek customs guy approached the car looking at the Arabic number plates and said very slowly "Do you speak English?". Should I have confessed, after all these years elsewhere, "yes, only English really, but the first 50 words of badly ...

... with a live band and traditional Greek dancing. It was a blast...one of the best we have attended.

It is really nice to attend these conferences because it is many of the same people from year to year and we have developed many friends whom we enjoy seeing different areas and cultures with. Greece was very different, its culture is interesting, the economic trouble are not really noticeable, they are a very laid back people ...
