... people! There are international students from all over the world attending FUB this semester, although no one else from Canada that I know of so far. I have met people from the States, Argentina, Australia and all over Europe! Very diverse!

There are small supermarkets close to the hostel, which is awesome, and we have a spacious shared kitchen with two people to a mini fridge and a cupboard. You have to supply your own dishes etc. though. I would recommed buying cheap ...

... why the name has both an Italian and a German spelling. This is a very quaint town that looks to be fairly old with small winding pedestrian only streets. Street signs are here are written in Italian and German, and a vast amount of people walking around are speaking German. I took some pictures and got myself a quick bite to eat. I have seen a lot of people walking around carrying backpacks with hiking boots and trekking poles ...

Today was a slow day. We drove out to Auronzo, which is a small lakeside town that we passed on the way to Cortina from Uldine on Sunday. We hiked around the lake and walked around town some, grabbing ice cream and window shopping at the craft and souvenir stores.

Trey and I did a 30+ mile bike ride from Cortina up to Prato Piazza. The length wasn't difficult, but the 900 meter climb was very strenuous. The ride through the forests, along the river, past a lake, and then up to the top were very scenic. We stopped towards the top to rest and eat our sandwiches. Peanut butter sandwiches never tasted so good after the climb to 2200 meters!

Sonja, Regine and I met in Toblach (Dobbiacco) in South Tyrol, Northern Italy, in the Heart of the Dolomite Mountains. Our aim was to walk a few days from hut to hut along the high altitude trek Alta Via 1, interspersed with some via ferrata (Klettersteig) climbs. An added bonus was the fact that we'd be passsing through an area that is quite literally steeped in history.

What a breathtaking place .... and I'm from Canada! The mountains are rough slices of rock jutting straight up to heaven. In many ways I am reminded of Patagonia. The light plays on the rock as the day gives way to night. From White to gold to red. Beautiful!!
